BEACON FALLS — Not limited by its baker’s dozen roster, the Woodland boys swim team posted an eighth-place finish at last week’s Class S championships at Wesleyan University in Middletown.

The Hawks earned 260 points, good enough to outpace nearly two-thirds of the 23-team field. Weston edged Sacred Heart for the divisional championship.

Woodland’s star of the meet was junior Aidan Music, who finished among the top five in all four of his events.

Music’s best performance came in the 100-yard breaststroke, where he finished third in 1 minute, 4.12 seconds. He added a fourth-place finish in the 200 IM by touching in 2:06.69, and he helped a pair of relay teams to top-five efforts.

The 200 medley relay team (Music, Andy O’Dell, Alan Katrenya and Jimmy Jensen) led off the meet with a fifth-place showing in 1:46.11, and the 200 free relay squad (Music, Katrenya, Jensen and O’Dell) came in fourth in 1:34.39.

O’Dell also enjoyed a strong individual day. He earned a pair of seventh-place finishes in the freestyle sprints, posting times of 23.26 seconds in the 50 free and 50.36 seconds in the 100 free. The event was the last of his high school career, which ends along with fellow seniors Katrenya, Brian Smith and Lauren Tompkins.

A number of other Hawks qualified for finals at the Class S meet. They included Katrenya (seventh in the 100 breast, 23rd in the 200 IM0, Jensen (18th in the 50 free, 19th in the 100 free) and Donovan White (19th in the 100 breast).

The 400 free relay team (Tompkins, Patrick Conway, Julie Hinckley and JD Dyckman) also earned a 15th-place finish in the final event of the meet.

Hinckley, Conway and Jordan Baer also competed in qualifications for individual events but did not advance to the finals.

A message left with Woodland head coach Tom Currier seeking comment was not returned.
