BOSTON — Mike Lang is having the best indoor track season in Woodland history.

The junior became the first Hawk to earn All-New England honors during the indoor season after he finished sixth in the long jump at the New England championships last Saturday at the Reggie Lewis Track and Athletic Center in Boston.

Lang leaped 21 feet, 4 ½ inches, earning the final All-New England spot by just 1 ½ inches over Windsor’s Sherrod Peay. The winning distance was 23-10, a meet record set by Massachusetts’ Alex Niemiec.

Lang will head to the Armory Track in New York City this weekend to compete at the New Balance Indoor Nationals, along with several of his relay teammates.

Lang already earned All-State honors with his third-place finish in the long jump at last month’s State Open. He recorded a 21-7 mark that day at the Floyd Little Athletic Center in New Haven, only three inches short of his season-best leap of 21-10 at the Class S state meet.

Lang earned three gold medals at the Naugatuck Valley League championships in January. He was the Outstanding Meet Performer and the Outstanding Field Performer at that meet, winning the long jump (21-9) and high jump (5-8) while anchoring the 4-by-400-meter relay team to victory.
