After earning two wins in the team’s first 18 games, the Prospect-Beacon Falls Legion team tallied two victories last weekend.

PBF split a pair of doubleheaders against Bethel and New Milford on Saturday and Sunday respectively.

On Saturday, PBF lost game one to Bethel, 7-0, but came back in the nightcap. Mike Masulli tossed a complete game and the team put together a six-run fourth inning in a 10-4 win.

Anthony Scirpo, Kyle Georgia and Ryan McKay delivered the big hits for Prospect-Beacon Falls against Bethel.
Game one against New Milford on Sunday has a similar script.

Connor Chura, Ryan Mariotti and Georgia all smacked two-out, run-scoring hits in the second inning to lift PBF to a 6-1 win. Brian Langdon went the distance and allowed one run and four hits.

“When Brian is on, he hits that low, outside corner,” PBF coach Jim Augelli said. “He kept them off-stride.”
The key hits that had eluded PBF all season came on Saturday and Sunday.

“We split two doubleheaders against two very good teams,” Augelli said. “In the middle of the season when we were losing, we weren’t hitting. We have a lot of good hitters, but we’ve just faced a lot of good pitchers.”

PBF lost game two, 8-4, to New Milford. Scirpo had two hits in the loss.

On Monday, the squad lost a pitcher’s duel against Ansonia and fell to 4-19 on the season.

PBF failed to get many base runners and lost 2-0 to Ansonia. While the offensive struggled, Georgia, the team’s starter, did not.

Georgia retired the first two batters on Monday, gave up a base hit and a two-run homer. Ansonia did not get a base runner the rest of the game.

A 2010 Woodland grad, Georgia underwent hip surgery in February and started the season in June ready to play. Monday was his third hard-luck loss of the year. He’s been the losing pitcher in two 1-0 decisions this season.

“Kyle has been gutting it out all year and pitching fantastic,” Augelli said. “He’s not 100 percent, but he’s our No. 1 pitcher, there’s no doubt.”

Auguelli was quick to point out that Georgia also bats third for the team. Augelli said Georgia will start the team’s final game of the season this Saturday against Danbury.

“Hopefully we can get some run support for him,” Augelli said.

And as PBF closes out the 2011 legion season, Auguelli said hitting should be the focus for returning players in the off-season.

“When you don’t hit, you have to play perfect baseball,” Augelli said.
