The Prospect-Beacon Falls American Legion team’s bats showed signs of life earlier this season in a come from behind win against Monroe and a late rally that fell short against Naugatuck.

Posts 194-25 was sporting a 2-4 ledger, then the team ran into a buzz saw over the weekend.

PBF dropped a 9-1 decision to Bethel as University of New Haven recruit Zack Albin pitched a complete game and launched a 390-foot home run.

“That was the best pitcher we have seen so far this season,” PBF general manager Larry Renna said. “He is going to UNH in the fall and he just shut down our bats. We had a couple of good games offensively and then we didn’t hit all weekend.”

PBF faced off against Oakville on Sunday in a double-header and dropped both by the margins of 11-0 and 8-1. Oakville is made up of players from Watertown and Pomperaug high schools and both programs excelled this past spring.

“Oakville is very tough,” Renna added. “They have the pitching and the hitting to get it done. Drawing players from both of those programs makes them very tough to beat.”

Post 194-25 got a tremendous effort from Kyle Georgia on Monday. PBF was in a pitchers duel with New Milford and ended up on the short end of a 1-0 extra inning final.

Georgia went the distance scattering five hits. But New Milford drove in the decisive run in the eighth inning, leading off the inning with a double and a bringing home the only run of the game with a two-out infield single.

“Kyle was spectacular,” Renna said. “Coming back from hip surgery he really pitched a gutsy game. He gave us a chance. He only threw about 85 pitches through eight innings and only needed 10 pitches to get through the fifth and sixth innings. We just couldn’t get the timely hit to put any runs on the board.”

The PBF defense was there to back up their pitcher on the hill. Anthony Scirpo and Mike Masulli threw two runners out at the plate from their posts in the outfield.

Mike Hardy collected two hits with Georgia and Masulli getting hits but the struggles continued for the Post 194-25 bats.

Prospect-Beacon Falls wILL travel to Municipal Stadium on today for a double-header against Waterbury.

“Hopefully playing at the Stadium will bring our bats back to life,” Renna said Tuesday. “That is a real good hitters park and if we can get some timely hits we can turn this thing around.”
