Track and Field
The Naugatuck girls’ track and field team narrowly kept its perfect record alive last Wednesday by sweeping a quad-meet. The Hounds had no problem smoking Watertown (120-30) and Derby (126.5-10.5) but beat Seymour by the slimmest of margins, 76-74. Event winners for Naugatuck included the 4-by-100 and 4-by-400 relay teams; Jocelyn Brantley in the 100; Rosa Moriello in the 800, 1,600, and 3,200; Sarah Konops in the 400; and Tori Pisco in the 200 and 300 hurdles. Shelby Hale, Martyann Chromik, and Sara Tarsi also had important roles in the winning relay squads. Perhaps the most important meet of the season awaits the Hounds next week when they head to Beacon Falls to take on Woodland and Crosby.

Tennis
The Naugatuck boys’ tennis team is still looking for its first win of the season after going winless last week against Crosby and Wolcott. The Hounds were shut out against Wolcott on Saturday after suffering a 6-3 loss to Crosby last Wednesday. Naugy was able to salvage three doubles victories in that match, as the teams of Manny Nobre-Augusto Clari, Sean Kim-Randy Kostka, and John Dana-Lain Berger all claimed wins. While the boys stand at 0-5, the girls are still flawless with a 5-0 record after defeating Crosby and Sacred Heart. Last Wednesday, Naugy beat Crosby, 5-2, before handling the Hearts, 6-1, on Monday. Meghan Toth, Sarah Yacavone, and Kaitlyn Carter were all perfect on the week. Rebekah Mitchell gained two wins on the doubles court—one with Danielle Charette and one with Elicia Young. Young also won another doubles match with Katie Botinick. An important week awaits Naugatuck with Holy Cross and Woodland.

Golf
The Naugatuck golfers suffered two losses this week at Hop Brook to drop their record to 2-3. The Hounds lost to Woodland, 186-194, last Thursday before falling to Torrington, 181-192, on Monday. Mike Leona was the low scorer of both matches for Naugy, shooting a 43 against the Hawks before carding a 41 against the Raiders. Tim Fleck posted a pair of 45s this week to help pace the Hounds. Tony Sapata shot a 52 against Woodland and a 53 against Torrington, while Anthony Orsini notched a 54 against Woodland and Aaron Johnson carded a 53 against Torrington.
