MIDDLETOWN — In a twist of irony, water postponed the state championship swim meets scheduled for Tuesday at Wesleyan University. A water main break forced the CIAC to push back the Class M and Class S meets to Thursday. The Class L and Class LL meets were expected to go on, as planned, Wednesday afternoon and evening.

Last week’s diving competitions were uninhibited, however. Woodland’s Lindsay Boland was the top local finisher, claiming sixth in Class S, with a score of 294.10. Tim Korzinski’s 211.65 was good for 19th. All-American Stephen Ettiene of Sacred Heart won with a whopping 566.55.

In Class L, Naugatuck’s Isabelle Moody finished 10th, with a total of 313.85. Joe Caputo was 15th, with a 281.60, and Kaitlin Carter placed 16th, at 274.90.

The Greyhounds’ depth was a major reason why they captured a fourth straight Naugatuck Valley League championship this season and is also a reason why they have a realistic shot at winning a pair of events at Wednesday’s meet, which begins at 7 p.m. The 400-meter freestyle relay team is seeded first overall, at three minutes, 21.00 seconds, just ahead of New Mildord (3:21.17) and Conard (3:21.58). Naugy’s 200 free relay squad enters as the No. 2 seed, at 1:29.71, .38 of a second behind Newtown.

Other top entries include sophomore Chris Branco, seeded sixth in the 500 free, at 4:58.61; senior Trevor Heller, No. 6 in the 50 free, at 22.54, and No. 4 in the 100-yard butterfly, at 55.21; and Kyle Conrad, seeded eighth in the 100 free, at 49.53.

The Hawks will have three top-eight entries Thursday at 7 p.m. The 200-yard medley relay team is the fifth seed, at 1:46.52, the 400 free relay squad is eighth, at 3:31.51, and junior Adam Trumbley is eighth in the 100-yard breaststroke, at 1:05.75.
