The Naugatuck and Region 16 school boards have approved the graduation dates for their respective high schools.

Due to an abnormally large number of snow days this year, graduations will be held late in June for Naugatuck High School and Woodland Regional High school.

Naugatuck High School’s graduation was scheduled for Monday, June 27.

School officials expressed concerns over holding graduation on a Monday night. However, due to legal requirements, officials said there was nothing they could do about it.

Woodland Regional High School’s graduation was scheduled for Thursday, June 23. Region 16 had less snow days than Naugatuck.
The school boards also approved commencement ceremonies for the middle schools in their districts.

Middle school commencement ceremonies will be done differently this year in Naugatuck following the merger of City Hill and Hillside middle schools last year, school officials explained.

Rather than having a ceremony at night, officials said, each of City Hill Middle School’s teams will hold a separate recognition ceremony on the mornings of June 22, June 23 and June 24 respectively, followed by an ice cream social and other special activities.

Long River Middle School in Prospect will hold a traditional commencement ceremony on June 21 with a rain date of June 22.
