Borough preschool programs now accepting applications

NAUGATUCK— Registration for the borough’s Head Start and School Readiness preschool programs is now open.

Naugatuck Head Start and School Readiness are NAEYC accredited preschool programs housed at the Prospect Street School, 100 Prospect St. Educational instruction is individualized for each student, to prepare them for a successful kindergarten experience.

Full-day and part-day classes as well as no fee or low fee opportunities are available.

All children receive free, balanced meals and snacks, and a free vision, hearing, and speech screening upon entry into the program.

A parent resource room is also available for all enrolled families, complete with a computer and library for their use. Monthly parent meetings and workshops take place on a variety of topics including current issues related to families. Educational programs for parents are also available such as, Raising Readers Book Club, Grandparents Raising Grandchildren support, career exploration, and ESL/GED classes.

To be eligible for the program, children must live in Naugatuck, turn 3 by Jan. 1, 2012, and meet income guidelines. Children with special needs are also eligible.
