Naugatuck police recently filed the following charges:

Calvin Hicks, 19, of 31 Rose St., Waterbury, was charged March 15 with second-degree breach of peace and interfering with officer/resisting.

Police reported on March 15 at approximately 4:35 p.m. officers were dispatched to a residence on a report of a domestic dispute. Police reported the accused was located outside of the residence engaged in a verbal altercation with another individual. Despite officers’ presence on scene, police reported, the accused continued to verbally argue with the other individual. Police reported the accused escalated the conflict by moving toward the individual in an aggressive manner, and was non-compliant with commands from officers. The accused was released on a $5,000 surety bond and scheduled to appear in Waterbury Superior Court on March 16.

Ja’nyla Harvey, 18, of 99 Gaplin St. Apt. 2N, Naugatuck, was charged March 15 with second-degree breach of peace, interfering with officer/resisting and assault of public safety or emergency medical personnel.

Police reported on March 15 at approximately 4:35 p.m. officers were dispatched to a residence on a report of a domestic dispute. Police reported the accused was located outside of the residence engaged in a verbal altercation with another individual. Despite officers’ presence on scene, police reported, the accused continued to verbally argue with the other individual. Police reported the accused failed to comply with officers, and during the incident the accused struck the officer in the face. The accused was held on a $20,000 surety bond and scheduled to appear in Waterbury Superior Court on March 16.

Brian Mallane, 39, of 18 Mallane Lane, Naugatuck, was charged March 15 with violation of restraining order, second-degree threatening, third-degree criminal mischief and second-degree harassment.

Police reported on March 15 the accused was arrested on an active arrest warrant. Police reported the warrant was issued due to the accused violating a protective order.
The accused was on a $150,000 surety bond and scheduled to appear in Waterbury Superior Court on March 16.

Lauren B. Kontout, 40, of 38 Gorman St., Naugatuck, was charged March 16 with possession of controlled substance or more than half ounce of cannabis.

Police reported on March 16 at 12:31 p.m. the accused was stopped for a motor vehicle violation. During the course of the motor vehicle investigation, police reported, the accused was found to be in possession of a controlled substance. The accused was released on a promise to appear and scheduled to appear at Waterbury Superior Court on April 14.

Kiswana Lynette Jones, 30, of 274 St. Lawrence Ave. Apt. 6, Buffalo, N.Y., was charged March 17 with second-degree threatening.

Police reported on March 17 at approximately 3:02 p.m. the accused was arrested on an active domestic arrest warrant. Police reported the warrant was issued due to the accused constantly harassing and threatening the victim through text messages. The accused was released on a $10,000 cash bond and scheduled to appear in Waterbury Superior Court on March 18.

John J. Sullivan, 30, of 496 Prospect St., Naugatuck, was charged March 17 with second-degree breach of peace, possession of drug paraphernalia, interfering with officer/resisting and violation of town ordinance.

Police reported on March 17 while on routine patrol officers were approached by the accused. Police reported the accused appeared to be intoxicated and began to become belligerent as he attempted to engage in a physical altercation with the officers. The accused was held on a $5,000 surety bond and scheduled to appear at Waterbury Superior Court on March 18.

Maxwell Santos, 23, of 17 Brookside Ave., Naugatuck, was charged March 17 with violation of protective order and disorderly conduct.

Police reported on March 17 officers were dispatched to a domestic dispute. Upon arrival, police reported, it was revealed that the accused got into an argument with the victim. After further investigation, police reported, it was revealed that the accused was in violation of a protective order with the victim. The accused was released on a $1,000 non-surety bond and scheduled to appear at Waterbury Superior Court on March 18.

Rebecca Fallon Leas, 30, of 239 Lewis St., Naugatuck, was charged March 18 with illegal operation of motor vehicle under the influence of alcohol and/or drugs and failure to drive in proper lane.

Police reported on March 18 at approximately 12:37 a.m. an officer initiated a motor vehicle investigation in the area of Cherry Street and Spencer Street. Through the officer’s investigation, police reported, the accused was found to be operating a motor vehicle under the influence of alcohol and/or drugs while failing to maintain her lane. The accused was released on a $500 non-surety bond and scheduled to appear in Waterbury Superior Court on April 14.

David McMonigle, 43, of 4 Rustling Reed Road, Naugatuck, was charged March 18 with illegal operation of motor vehicle under the influence of alcohol and/or drugs.

Police reported on March 18 at approximately 12:56 a.m. officers responded to 10 Great Hill Road on a report of a male passed out behind the wheel of a motor vehicle. Through the officer’s investigation, police reported, the accused was found to be operating a motor vehicle under the influence of alcohol and/or drugs. The accused was released on a $500 non-surety bond and scheduled to appear in Waterbury Superior Court on April 28.

Edward J. Raimo, 36, of 20 LeClair Court, Naugatuck, was charged March 18 with third-degree larceny and second-degree criminal trover.

Police reported on March 18 officers served the accused on an active arrest warrant out of Naugatuck. Police reported the warrant was for a larceny on or about Nov. 18, 2020. The accused was released on a $10,000 surety bond and scheduled to appear in Waterbury
Superior Court on April 14.

Edward P. Smith Jr., 61, of 28 Shadduck Road, Naugatuck, was charged March 18 with two counts of violation of probation.

Police reported on March 18 the accused was arrested on probation violations. The accused was released on non-surety bond and scheduled to appear at Waterbury Superior Court on April 14.

Mark A. Garbatini, 36, of 20 Salem Boulevard, Naugatuck, was charged March 18 with sixth-degree larceny.

Police reported on March 18 at approximately 9:04 p.m. officers responded to Walmart for a shoplifting complaint. Police reported the accused was observed switching price tags on merchandise along with not scanning some of the merchandise totaling $79.70. The accused was released on a $1,500 non-surety bond and scheduled to appear at Waterbury Superior Court on April 15.

Romaine Patterson, 25, of 116 Quinn St., Naugatuck, was charged March 19 with second-degree failure to appear, first-degree failure to appear and failure to respond to payable violation.

Police reported on March 19 the accused was arrested on active arrest warrants. Police reported one warrant was from an incident where the accused failed to appear in court, stemming from an investigation that lead to a domestic disturbance arrest. Police reported one warrant was from an incident where the accused failed to appear in court, stemming from an investigation that lead to a burglary arrest. Police reported one warrant was from an incident where the accused failed to appear in court, stemming from a motor vehicle investigation where the accused was issued a misdemeanor summons. The accused was held on a bonds totaling $35,000 and scheduled to appear at Waterbury Superior Court on March 19.

Hernan T. Aponte, 33, of 34 Bridge St., New Milford, was charged March 19 with violation of probation.

Police reported on March 19 the accused was arrested on a probation violation. The accused was held on a $50,000 surety bond and scheduled to appear at Waterbury Superior Court on March 19.

Frank Rose, 29, of 23 Woodbine St. Apt. 2, Naugatuck, was charged March 19 with reckless driving, failure to drive in proper lane, illegal operation of motor vehicle under suspension and engaging police in pursuit.

Police reported on March 19 the accused was arrested on an active arrest warrant at Waterbury Superior Court. Police reported the warrant was from an incident where the accused evaded a motor vehicle accident while engaging officers in pursuit along with other motor vehicle charges. Police reported the accused’s license was suspended at the time of the incident. The accused was held to appear in Waterbury Superior Court on March 19.

Greg Ballester, 39, of 33-5 Ridge Road, Naugatuck, was charged March 19 with first-degree failure to appear, possession of drug paraphernalia and interfering with officer/resisting.

Police reported on March 19 officers were called to Wal-Mart for a report of a shoplifting. Upon officers’ arrival, police reported, the accused began to run away from officers and engaged them in a foot pursuit. Police reported the accused was apprehended a very short time later and was found to have drug paraphernalia on his person, and an outstanding arrest warrant. The accused was released on a $10,000 surety bond and scheduled to appear at Waterbury Superior Court on April 14.

Joshua Michael Stout, 39, of 109 Thunderbird Drive, Naugatuck, was charged March 19 with second-degree failure to appear.

Police reported on March 19 the accused was arrested on an outstanding PRAWN warrant. The accused was released on a $150 cash-only bond and scheduled to appear at Waterbury Superior Court on April 28.

Thomas Matthews, 63, of 111 Wooster St. Apt. 7D, Naugatuck, was charged March 19 with interfering with an officer/resisting and disorderly conduct.

Police reported on March 19 at approximately 9:05 p.m. officers responded to a residence on a report of a domestic dispute. Police reported it was discovered through the investigation that the accused became involved in an argument with the victim that escalated and became physical when, according to the victim, the accused threw a beer can at the victim and pulled the victim’s hair. The accused was released on a $5,000 non-surety bond and scheduled to appear at Waterbury Superior Court on March 22.

Michael Fredrick Currie, 36, of 22 Arbor Ave., Naugatuck, was charged March 19 with illegal operation of motor vehicle under the influence of alcohol and/or drugs, drinking while driving, engaging police in pursuit, disobeying signal of officer, second-degree reckless endangerment, failure to obey stop sign and failure to drive in proper lane.

Police reported on March 19 at 11 p.m. the accused was observed traveling through a construction zone that was being blocked by officers in marked patrol vehicles from an earlier accident where a utility pole was struck. Police reported the accused almost struck a firefighter that was on the scene. Police reported a motor vehicle stop was attempted, but the accused continued to his home, where he was stopped in the driveway. Through the officer’s investigation, police reported, it was determined the accused was drinking while operating his vehicle and operating under the influence of alcohol. The accused was released on a $5,000 non-surety bond and scheduled to appear at Waterbury Superior Court on April 22.

William Handford Saunders, 27, of 22 Munson Ave., Waterbury, was charged March 20 with second-degree breach of peace, third-degree assault and interfering with an officer/resisting.

Police reported on March 19 at 11:56 p.m. officers responded to a physical domestic dispute in progress. Police reported this was reported by a witness in the area who was observing the incident. Police reported it was discovered through the investigation the accused became involved in an argument with the victim that escalated and became physical when, according to the witness, the accused was striking the victim. The accused was released on a $50,000 surety bond and a full-no contact conditions of release. The accused was scheduled to appear in Waterbury Superior Court on March 22.

Victor Manuel Izquierdo, 21, of 85 Bradley Ave., Waterbury, was charged March 21 with violation of protective order.

Police reported on March 21 at 12:30 a.m. officers observed a suspicious motor vehicle parked in the Linden Park parking lot running with its lights off. Through officer’s investigation, police reported, it was learned that the accused was inside the vehicle with the operator in violation of a full no-contact protective order. The accused was released on a $5,000 surety bond and scheduled to appear in Waterbury Superior Court on March 22.
