The Naugatuck Police Department reported the following arrests:

CHARLES MEBANE, 50, of 80 Edwin St., Bridgeport, was charged Nov. 16 with insurance coverage fails minimum requirements.

Police reported on Nov. 16 Mebane was arrested on an active arrest warrant. The warrant was for a motor vehicle accident investigation on Aug. 15, 2015. During the investigation, police reported, it was determined Mebane did not have valid insurance at the time of the accident. Mebane was given a court date of Nov. 16 to appear at Waterbury Superior Court and held on a $500 surety bond.

JOHN OPPEDISANO, 23, of 236 Morning Dove Road, Naugatuck, was charged Nov. 16 with breach of peace.

Police reported on Nov. 16 at approximately 8 a.m. Oppedisano turned himself in on an active arrest warrant. The warrant was for a disturbance reported on Oct. 19, 2015 on Cherry Street. Police reported Oppedisano, with a juvenile male, and another adult male confronted the victim who was walking on Cherry Street. Police reported Oppedisano was with the other adult male who was yelling and attempting to instigate a fight with the victim, who is known to him. The juvenile then hit the victim. Oppedisano, the juvenile and the other adult male drove from the area, police reported. Oppedisano was given a court date of Nov. 16 to appear at Waterbury Superior Court and held on a $1,500 surety bond.

VIRGINIA LOVIG, 69, of 54 Brookwood Road, Bethany, was charged Nov. 16 with breach of peace.

Police reported on Nov. 16 at approximately 5:39 p.m. an officer responded to Walmart for a disturbance complaint. The female juvenile victim stated she was using the restroom when Lovig entered, police reported. While the juvenile victim was inside a stall, police reported, Lovig looked over the top of the stall and stared at the victim. The juvenile victim left the restroom without further incident and reported it to an adult family member. Police reported Lovig and the victim do not know each other. Lovig was given a court date of Nov. 25 to appear at Waterbury Superior Court and released on a $500 non-surety bond.

MAIRA VELASQUEZ, 61, of 158 Cliff St., Naugatuck, was charged Nov. 17 with disorderly conduct, third-degree assault and risk of injury to child.

Police reported on Nov. 17 at approximately 8:33 a.m. officers responded to 36 May St. for a domestic disturbance. During an argument, police reported, Velasquez scratched the victim’s neck. The victim was holding her child during the altercation, police reported. Velasquez refused to leave the home when the victim advised her to, police reported. Velasquez was given a court date of Nov. 18 to appear at Waterbury Superior Court and released on a $2,500 surety bond.

KENNETH JOHNSON, 43, of 11 Carriage Drive, Seymour, was charged Nov. 17 with first-degree burglary, disorderly conduct, third-degree assault and second-degree strangulation.

Police reported on Nov. 17 at approximately 8:44 a.m. officers responded to Crofut Road for an assault. Police reported Johnson left the area in a vehicle prior to the officers’ arrival. Johnson entered the victim’s home and began to fight with him, police reported. During the assault, police reported, Johnson placed his hand around the victim’s neck. Johnson and the victim are acquaintances. Police reported Johnson was located in Seymour by the Seymour Police Department. He was given a court date of Nov. 25 to appear at Waterbury Superior Court and released on a $5,000 surety bond.

BRANDON ELKO, 39, of 22 Hillside Ave., Oakville, was charged Nov. 18 with second-degree threatening, breach of peace and third-degree assault.

Police reported on Nov. 18 at approximately 2:21 p.m. officers responded to 278 High St. for two males fighting in the road. One of the males, Brandon Elko, left the scene prior to the officer’s arrival. Police reported he was located on Maple Street. During an argument, police reported, Elko pulled out a knife and Paul Johnson also held a knife. Both parties put their knives away and did not use them in the altercation. Elko punched Johnson and Johnson kicked at Elko during the fight, police reported. The parties stopped fighting prior to the officers’ arrival to the scene. Elko was given a court date of Dec. 2 to appear at Waterbury Superior Court and released on a $5,000 surety bond.

PAUL JOHNSON, 31, of 290 High St., Naugatuck, was charged Nov. 18 with second-degree threatening and breach of peace.

Police reported on Nov. 18 at approximately 2:21 p.m. officers responded to 278 High St. for two males fighting in the road. One of the males, Brandon Elko, left the scene prior to the officer’s arrival. Police reported he was located on Maple Street. During an argument, police reported, Elko pulled out a knife and Paul Johnson also held a knife. Both parties put their knives away and did not use them in the altercation. Elko punched Johnson and Johnson kicked at Elko during the fight, police reported. The parties stopped fighting prior to the officers’ arrival to the scene. Elko was given a court date of Dec. 2 to appear at Waterbury Superior Court and released on a $1,000 non-surety bond.

RENEE LEVESEQUE, 30, of 120 Warren Ave., Naugatuck, was charged Nov. 18 with risk of injury to child and disorderly conduct.

Police reported on Nov. 18 at approximately 9:46 p.m. officers responded to 120 Warren Ave. for a domestic disturbance between boyfriend and girlfriend. During an argument, police reported, they punched each other. There was a child present during the arguing phase of the altercation, police reported. Levesque was given a court date of Nov. 19 to appear at Waterbury Superior Court and released on a $5,000 non-surety bond.

JOSEPH A. BARREIRA, 28, of 120 Warren Ave., Naugatuck, was charged Nov. 18 with third-degree assault, risk of injury to child and disorderly conduct.

Police reported on Nov. 18 at approximately 9:46 p.m. officers responded to 120 Warren Ave. for a domestic disturbance between boyfriend and girlfriend. During an argument, police reported, they punched each other. There was a child present during the arguing phase of the altercation, police reported. Barreira was given a court date of Nov. 19 to appear at Waterbury Superior Court and released on a $5,000 non-surety bond.

TIMOTHY CARLSON, 57, of 14 Barnum Court, Naugatuck, was charged Nov. 19 with threatening.

Police reported on Nov. 19 at approximately 2:04 p.m. an officer responded to 14 Barnum Court for a threatening complaint. Police reported Carlson was arguing with the victim and threatened to harm him. The victim is a neighbor to Carlson, police reported. Carlson was given a court date of Nov. 20 to appear at Waterbury Superior Court.

KEITH POHORENCE, 30, of 35 Hill St., Naugatuck, was charged Nov. 19 with violation of probation/conditional discharge.

Police reported on Nov. 19 Pohorence was arrested on an active arrest warrant. Pohorence was given a court date of Nov. 19 to appear at Waterbury Superior Court and held on a $25,000 surety bond.

MANUEL FONSECA, 62, of 182 Scott St., Naugatuck, was charged Nov. 19 with driving under the influence.

Police reported on Nov. 19 at approximately 7:34 p.m. an officer responded to a motor vehicle accident on Bridge Street in the parking lot of KFC. Police reported Fonseca struck a parked vehicle. There were no injuries reported. During the investigation, police reported, it was determined Fonseca was operating under the influence of alcohol. Fonseca was given a court date of Dec. 3 to appear at Waterbury Superior Court and released on a $500 non-surety bond.

JAMES QUARFORD, 52, of 52 Sunburst Road, Naugatuck, was charged Nov. 19 with violation of probation/conditional discharge.

Police reported on Nov. 19 at approximately 8:49 p.m. Quarford was arrested on an active arrest warrant. Quarford was given a court date of Nov. 20 to appear at Waterbury Superior Court and held on a court-set $10,000 surety bond.

HEIDI ZINK, 56, of 54 Dalton St., Oakville, was charged Nov. 21 with sixth-degree larceny.

Police reported on Nov. 21 at approximately 3:32 a.m. an officer responded to Walmart for a shoplifting complaint. Police reported Zink stole toys worth $73.37. Zink was given a court date of Nov. 25 to appear at Waterbury Superior Court and released on a $1,000 surety bond.

PATRICIA NORTHROP, 27, of 538 Wilson St., Naugatuck, was charged Nov. 21 with sixth-degree larceny.

Police reported on Nov. 21 at approximately 11:56 a.m. an officer responded to Big Y for a larceny complaint. Police reported Northrop stole candy and make-up valued at $412.59. Northrop was given a court date of Dec. 2 to appear at Waterbury Superior Court and released on a $3,500 non-surety bond.

CHARLES KVIETKUS, 34, of 62 Hotchkiss St., Naugatuck, was charged Nov. 21 with disorderly conduct and third degree assault.

Police reported on Nov. 21 at approximately 6:52 p.m. officers responded to 62 Hotchkiss St. for a domestic disturbance between boyfriend and girlfriend and his girlfriend’s adult daughter. During an argument, police reported, Kvietkus broke a porch door. Police reported Kvietkus also pushed one of the female victims and hit her causing a minor abrasion on the right side of her face. Kvietkus was given a court date of Nov. 23 to appear at Waterbury Superior Court and held on a $5,000 surety bond.

ROBERT OVERSTREET, 46, of 55 Daniel Drive, Waterbury, was charged Nov. 22 with possession of controlled substance, tampering with or fabricating physical evidence and interfering with an officer

Police reported on Nov. 22 at approximately 5:11 p.m. Overstreet turned himself in on an active arrest warrant. The warrant was for a motor vehicle investigation on Nov. 14, 2015. During the investigation, police reported, an officer observed what appeared to be folded bags of heroin inside the vehicle. Police reported Overstreet took the folded bags and swallowed them to prevent the officer from taking the bags. Overstreet was given a court date of Dec. 2 to appear at Waterbury Superior Court and released on a $5,000 non-surety bond.

ERIC NICHIO, 25, of 135 Mill St., Shelton, was charged Nov. 22 with driving under the influence.

Police reported on Nov. 22 at approximately 1:32 a.m. an officer conducted a motor vehicle investigation on Maple Street. During the investigation, police reported, it was determined Nichio was operating under the influence of alcohol. Nichio was given a court date of Dec. 3 to appear at Waterbury Superior Court and released on a $1,000 non-surety bond.

CARLOS AMARAL, 27, of 111 High St., Naugatuck, was charged Nov. 22 with second-degree failure to appear.

Police reported on Nov. 22 at approximately 5:46 p.m. Amaral turned himself in on an active arrest warrant. Amaral was given a court date of Dec. 2 to appear at Waterbury Superior Court and released on a court-set $500 surety bond.

BRANDEN BETAS, 24, of 3995 Madison Ave., Bridgeport, was charged Nov. 22 with sixth-degree larceny.

Police reported on Nov. 22 at approximately 11:27 p.m. officers responded to Walmart for a larceny complaint. Police reported Betas stole chewing gum, Zippo lighters and a folding knife valued at $110.81. Betas was given a court date of Nov. 23 to appear at Waterbury Superior Court and held on a $500 surety bond.

RYAN MCCARTHY, 39, of 46 Lines Hill St., Naugatuck, was charged Nov. 23 with violation of probation/conditional discharge.

Police reported on Nov. 23 at approximately 2:01 a.m. McCarthy turned himself in on an active arrest warrant. McCarthy was given a court date of Dec. 2 to appear at Waterbury Superior and released on a court-set $25,000 surety bond.
