Naugatuck police recently filed the following charges:
Joanne Jones, 55, of 44 Overton Ave., Waterbury, was charged Dec. 20 with criminal impersonation, possession of drug paraphernalia and possession of controlled substance or more than half ounce of cannabis.
Police reported on Dec. 20 at approximately 1:02 a.m. an officer initiated a motor vehicle investigation in the area New Haven Road. Through the officer’s investigation, police reported, the accused was found to be in possession of a controlled substance, possession of drug paraphernalia, and interfered with the officer’s investigation by giving the wrong name. The accused was held on a $5,000 surety bond and scheduled to appear in Waterbury Superior Court on Dec. 20.
Juan C. Rebollo-Maldonado, 38, of 65 Oak St., Naugatuck, was charged Dec. 20 with first-degree criminal trespass.
Police reported on Dec. 20 at 1:41 a.m. officers responded to a Cumberland Farms for a report of an intoxicated person causing a disturbance. Police reported officers saw the accused was arguing and yelling with a Cumberland Farms employee. Police reported the accused had the odor of alcoholic beverages emanating from him. Police reported officers advised the accused to leave the scene or he would be arrested for trespassing. Sometime later, the accused returned against the officers’ orders, police reported, and was taken into custody. The accused was released on a $500 non-surety bond and scheduled to appear in Waterbury Superior Court on Jan. 8.
Joseph Richard Kos, 29, of 75 Montgomery St., Bridgeport, was charged Dec. 20 with failure to respond to payable violation.
Police reported on Dec. 20 the accused was arrested on an active failure to respond to an infraction arrest warrant. The accused was released on a $150 cash bond and scheduled to appear in Waterbury Superior Court on Jan. 2.
Wendy Anne Robertson, 53, of 3 Lyrical Lane, Sandy Hook, was charged Dec. 20 with failure to insure private motor vehicle.
Police reported on Dec. 20 the accused was arrested on an active arrest warrant. Police reported the warrant was from an incident where the accused was operating an uninsured motor vehicle on Aug. 27, 2019, in which the accused’s vehicle struck another vehicle in the roadway while exiting a driveway. The accused also had a suspended license. The accused was released on a $500 non-surety bond to appear in Waterbury Superior Court on Jan. 8.
Kenneth Uchechukwu Opara, 32, of 250 Orange St. Apt. 2, Waterbury, was charged Dec. 20 with interfering with an officer/resisting.
Police reported on Dec. 20 officers were dispatched Walmart, 1100 New Haven Road, on a report of a shoplifting from the store. Police reported loss prevention advised that they observed a party conceal merchandise totaling over $115.13 and exit the store without paying for items. Police reported the accused was with the arrested party who was charged with the larceny. Police reported when the accused was advised that he was under arrest he fought with officers at the scene and was pepper sprayed. The accused was physically and verbally abusive to the officers on scene, police reported. This all happened at the entrance of the building in front of patrons as they entered the store. Police reported one officer was injured during the incident. The accused was released on a $10,000 surety bond and scheduled to appear in Waterbury Superior Court on Jan. 2.
Luquaia D. Melton, 28, of 250 Orange St., Waterbury, was charged Dec. 20 with sixth-degree larceny and interfering with an officer/resisting.
Police reported on Dec. 20 officers were dispatched to Walmart, 1100 New Haven Road, on a report of a shoplifting from the store. Police reported loss prevention advised that they observed the accused conceal merchandise totaling over $115.13 and exit the store without paying for items. When the accused was advised that she was under arrest, police reported, she fought with officers at the scene. Police reported the accused tried to flee the scene by ripping away from an officer and running away on foot. Police reported the accused was physically and verbally abusive to the officers on scene. This all happened at the entrance of the building in front of patrons as they entered the store. Police reported one officer was injured during the incident. The accused was released on a $10,000 surety bond and scheduled to appear in Waterbury Superior Court on Jan. 2.
Steven Capers, 24, of 371 Ward St., Wallingford, was charged Dec. 21 with violation of protective order.
Police reported on Dec. 21 at approximately 6:30 p.m. officers responded to a report of a domestic dispute, which turned into a violation of a protective order complaint. Police reported it was discovered through the investigation that the accused was in violation of a protective order by contacting the protected person by phone. The accused was released on a $5,000 surety bond to appear in Waterbury Superior Court on Dec. 23.
Marissa Kristen Woodsworth, 20, of 46 Klein Drive, Prospect, was charged Dec. 21 with engaging police in pursuit, evading responsibility-injury/property damage and reckless driving.
Police reported on Dec. 21 at 6:20 p.m. officers responded to the area of 1007 New Haven Road, the Verizon store, for a reported evading motor vehicle accident. Through the officer’s investigation, police reported, the accused’s vehicle struck another vehicle, a fence and tree. Police reported the accused was found sometime later after engaging officers in pursuit and driving recklessly. The accused was released on promise to appear and scheduled to appear in Waterbury Superior Court on Jan. 2.
Steven T. Smith, 26, of 41 Celentano Drive, Naugatuck, was charged Dec. 21 with first-degree unlawful restraint, first-degree breach of peace and reckless driving.
Police reported on Dec. 21 at approximately 9:23 p.m. officers responded to a residence on a report of a domestic dispute. Police reported it was discovered through the investigation that the accused had driven recklessly prior to their arrival with the victim in the vehicle. Police reported the accused, according to the victim, had threatened to drive the vehicle into a utility pole with her in the vehicle while driving at excessive speeds. Police reported the accused refused to pull over at the victim’s request several times. The accused was released on a $5,000 non-surety bond to appear in Waterbury Superior Court on Dec. 23.
Maria C. Zangrilli, 59, of 156 Jersey St. Apt. 2, Waterbury, was charged Dec. 21 with sixth-degree larceny.
Police reported on Dec. 21 officers were dispatched to Walmart, 1100 New Haven Road, on a report of a shoplifting from the store. Police reported loss prevention advised that they observed the accused illegally conceal $123.05 worth of merchandise and exit the store without paying for items. The accused was released on promise to appear and scheduled to appear in Waterbury Superior Court on Jan. 8.
Felisha M. Robles, 24, of 41 Cooke St. Apt. 2, Waterbury, was charged Dec. 22 with sixth-degree larceny.
Police reported on Dec. 22 the accused was arrested on an active arrest warrant. The warrant was from an incident that occurred on Dec. 12, 2018, where the accused, who was an employee at the time, was observed illegally concealing and taking $200 in cash from the register. The accused was released on $500 non-surety bond and scheduled to appear in Waterbury Superior Court on Jan. 8.
Waldnei Garcia-Mendonca, 44, of 31 John St., Naugatuck, was charged Dec. 22 with second-degree breach of peace, third-degree strangulation, first-degree reckless endangerment and disorderly conduct.
Police reported on Dec. 22 at approximately 9:30 a.m. officers responded to a report of a domestic dispute. Police reported it was discovered through the investigation that the accused became involved in an argument with the victim that escalated. Police reported the accused continued to yell at and threaten the accused in a public place. The accused has a history of physical violence against the victim, police reported. The accused was held on $5,000 surety bond and scheduled to appear in Waterbury Superior Court on Dec. 23.
Police reported on Dec. 22 the accused was arrested on an active arrest warrant. The warrant was from a domestic incident that was reported to the Naugatuck Police Department on Dec. 22, 2019. The accused was released on a $10,000 surety bond to appear in Waterbury Superior Court on Dec. 23.
Jesaidys Marqe Santos, 20, of 326 Elm St. Apt. I, Waterbury, was charged Dec. 24 with sixth-degree larceny.

Velma Defosse, 50, of 64 Bowers St., Watertown, was charged Dec. 24 with illegal operation of motor vehicle under the influence of alcohol and/or drugs.
Police reported on Dec. 24 at approximately 6:48 p.m. an officer initiated a motor vehicle investigation in the area of 39 Horton Hill Road. Through the officer’s investigation, police reported, the accused was found to be operating under the influence of alcohol and/or drugs. The accused was released on $1,000 non-surety bond and scheduled to appear in Waterbury Superior Court on Jan. 2.
Marissa Jean McClay, 35, of 52 Pine St., Hamden, was charged Dec. 26 with possession of controlled substance or more than half ounce of cannabis, possession of drug paraphernalia and risk of injury to child.
Police reported on Dec. 26 the accused was arrested on a suspicious vehicle complaint at the Sunoco Gas Station, 531 North Nain St., at approximately 7:42 p.m. Through the officer’s investigation, police reported, it was found that the accused was in possession of a controlled substance along with drug paraphernalia. Police reported the controlled substance did contain fentanyl. Police reported the accused was also in the parking area for that period of time with a young juvenile in the vehicle. The accused was released on a $15,000 non-surety bond and scheduled to appear in Waterbury Superior Court on Jan. 8.
Devon Maurice Abney, 27, of 91 Virginia Ave., Waterbury, was charged Dec. 26 with first-degree reckless endangerment, criminal possession of a firearm, criminal use of a weapon, interfering with an officer, carrying a pistol without a permit, illegal possession of narcotic, sale of certain illegal drugs and reckless driving.
Louis Durrett, 35, of 27 Edson Ave., Waterbury, was charged Dec. 27 with illegal operation of motor vehicle under the influence of alcohol and/or drugs and drinking while driving.
Police reported on Dec. 27 at approximately 2:42 a.m. an officer initiated a motor vehicle investigation in the area of 301 Meadow St. Through the officer’s investigation, police reported, the accused was found to be driving a motor vehicle while drinking, while under the influence of alcohol and/or drugs, and with a suspended license. The accused was released on $500 non-surety bond and scheduled to appear in Waterbury Superior Court on Jan. 9.
Jeremy Durell Walker, 28, of 170 Henry St., New Haven, was charged Dec. 27 with second-degree failure to appear.
Police reported on Dec. 27 the accused was arrested on an active failure to appear (PRAWN) arrest warrant. The accused was released on a $1,500 surety bond and scheduled to appear in Norwich Superior Court on Jan. 13.
Ariana Asipi, 25, of 4 Nicollis St., Oakville, was charged Dec. 28 with illegal operation of motor vehicle under the influence of alcohol and/or drugs.
Police reported on Dec. 28 at approximately 1:44 a.m. an officer initiated a motor vehicle investigation in the area of Route 8 north at exit 27. Through the officer’s investigation, police reported, the accused was found to be operating under the influence of alcohol and/or drugs while traveling unreasonably fast. The accused was released on $500 non-surety bond and scheduled to appear in Waterbury Superior Court on Jan. 9.
Robert A. Knight, 46, of 19 Evergreen Ave., Hamden, was charged Dec. 28 with conspiracy to commit sixth-degree larceny and sixth-degree larceny.

William Allen, 39, of 376 Radmere Drive, Cheshire, was charged Dec. 28 with conspiracy to commit sixth-degree larceny, sixth-degree larceny and possession of drug paraphernalia.
Police reported on Dec. 28 at approximately 3:19 a.m. officers were dispatched to Walmart, 1100 New Haven Road, on a report of a shoplifting from the store. Police reported loss prevention advised that they observed the accused, with an accomplice, illegally conceal $414.60 worth of merchandise and exit the store without paying for items. Police reported the accused was also found in possession of drug paraphernalia. The accused was released on $500 non-surety bond and scheduled to appear in Waterbury Superior Court on Jan. 8.
Ruben Carmenate, 21, of 27 Platt St., Waterbury, was charged Dec. 28 with second-degree threatening and possession of controlled substance or more than half ounce of cannabis.
Police reported on Dec. 28 at approximately 5:44 p.m. there was a domestic incident reported from an undisclosed address in Naugatuck. The victim stated the accused started texting the victim saying he wanted to see the victim. Police reported the accused was not happy that the victim refused and was with a current boyfriend. Police reported the accused then contacted the victim directly on Instagram Live. The accused then, according to the victim, started saying that he was going to come over and slash and stab the victim and the current boyfriend, police reported. Police reported the accused also told the victim that if the victim contacted police that he would sit and wait until after police left to commit the crime. Police reported the victim stated the accused has made these threats before on several occasions and was in fear of her safety. Police reported officers found the accused sometime later and took him into custody. Police reported the accused was also in possession of a controlled substance at the time of his arrest. The accused was held on a $100,000 surety bond to appear in Waterbury Superior Court on Dec. 30.
Harrison Gaits Herdzik, 21, of 41 Tanglewood Drive, Danbury, was charged Dec. 28 with violation of protective order.
Police reported on Dec. 28 the accused was arrested on an active arrest warrant. Police reported the warrant was from a domestic incident that was reported to Naugatuck police on Oct. 31, 2101, where the accused violated a protective order issued by the court. The accused was released on a $5,000 surety bond and scheduled to appear in Waterbury Superior Court on Dec. 30.
