Naugatuck police recently filed the following charges:

Michael Mortensen, of last known address 21 Leonard St., Waterbury, was charged Sept. 9 with third-degree assault and fifth-degree larceny.

Police reported on Sept. 9 the accused was arrested on an active arrest warrant while in custody at Waterbury Superior Court. The warrant was from an identity theft/larceny incident that was reported to Naugatuck police on July 2, 2019. The accused was held and scheduled to appear in Waterbury Superior Court on Sept. 9.

Gloria Vanessa Velez, 35, of 138 Warren St., Meriden, was charged Sept. 9 with possession of controlled substance or more than half ounce of cannabis.

Police reported on Sept. 9 at approximately 5:20 p.m. the officer initiated a motor vehicle investigation in the area of 535 South Main St. Through the officer’s investigation, police reported, the accused was found to be operating a motor vehicle without minimum insurance, while in possession of a controlled substance, and charged with other motor vehicle charges. The accused was released on a $5,000 surety bond and scheduled to appear in Waterbury Superior Court on Sept. 18.

Kyle Anthony Anders-Huculak, 21, of 143 Hoadley St., Naugatuck, was charged Sept. 10 with possession of controlled substance or more than half ounce of cannabis, sixth-degree larceny and possession of drug paraphernalia.

Police reported on Sept. 10 at approximately 11:51 p.m. officers were dispatched to the area of 332 Scott St. for a larceny from a motor vehicle complaint. It was reported that a male subject stole items from a motor vehicle and fled the scene on a bicycle. Through the officers’ investigation, police reported, they learned that the accused fled the area to a local bar where he sat the bicycle fitting the description given outside. Police reported the officer went into the bar and found the accused who also fit the description given by the victim and the witness. The officer questioned the accused and ultimately did a search for weapons. At which time, police reported, the accused had items in his possession that fit the items reported stolen. Police reported after an identification by the witness and search incident to arrest, in which they found more items reported stolen, the accused was taken into custody. The accused was released on a $500 surety bond and scheduled to appear in Waterbury Superior Court on Sept. 25.

Sarah Diana Stronkowsky, 32, of 20 Merriman Lane, Prospect, was charged Sept. 10 with risk of injury to a child.

Police reported on Sept. 10 the accused was arrested on an active arrest warrant charging her with risk of injury to a child from a complaint that was reported to the Naugatuck Police Department on July 1, 2019. The accused was released on a $5,000 non-surety bond and scheduled to appear in Waterbury Superior Court on Sept. 10.

Tommy Torres, 33, of 190 Birch Drive, Cheshire, was charged Sept. 10 with unauthorized damage to motor vehicle, first-degree criminal mischief and violation of protective order.

Police reported on Sept. 10 the accused was arrested on an active arrest warrant. Police reported the warrant was from a domestic incident that was reported to Naugatuck police on May 8, 2019. The accused was released on a $25,000 surety bond and scheduled to appear in Waterbury Superior Court on Sept. 25.

Tashira D. Vargas, 30, of 479 Spring St. Apt. C, Naugatuck, was charged Sept. 10 with second-degree failure to appear.

Police reported on Sept. 10 the accused was arrested on an active failure to appear (PRAWN) arrest warrant. The accused was released on a $500 surety bond and scheduled to appear in Waterbury Superior Court on Sept. 18.

Christopher Allen Main, 38, of 60 East Albert St., Torrington, was charged Sept. 10 with third-degree larceny, two counts of first-degree criminal trespass and two counts of sixth-degree larceny.

Police reported on Sept. 10 the accused was arrested on an active arrest warrants while in custody at Waterbury Superior Court. The warrants were from incidents that was reported to Naugatuck police on May 25, 2019 and June 3, 2019. The accused was held and scheduled to appear in Waterbury Superior Court on Sept. 10.

John Christopher Cruz, 23, of 144 Park Terrace Apt. 3, Waterbury, was charged Sept. 10 with violation of protective order, third-degree assault, interfering with an emergency call and second-degree breach of peace.

Police reported on Sept. 10 the accused was arrested on an active arrest warrant while in custody at Waterbury Superior Court. Police reported the warrant was from a domestic incident that was reported to Naugatuck police on March 31, 2019 in which the accused violated a standing protective order, interfered with an emergency call and was charged with other charges including assault. The accused was held on a $50,000 surety bond and scheduled to appear in Waterbury Superior Court on Sept. 10.

Russell James Pierpont, 44, of 1 Bradley St., Naugatuck, was charged Sept. 12 with third-degree assault, disorderly conduct, third-degree criminal mischief and second-degree threatening.

Police reported on Sept. 12 at approximately 5:27 p.m. officers responded to a residence on a report of a domestic dispute. Police reported it was discovered through the investigation that the accused became involved in an argument with the victim that escalated and became physical when, according to the victim, the accused struck the victim several times in the head, threatened the victim, and caused destruction to the property at the residence. The accused was held on a $10,000 surety bond to appear in Waterbury Superior Court on Sept. 13.
