Naugatuck police recently filed the following charges:

Tina Seckington, 37, of 23 Grove St., Bristol, was charged March 6 with first-degree larceny, conspiracy to commit first-degree larceny, first-degree identity theft, conspiracy to commit first-degree identity theft, third-degree forgery, third-degree burglary, conspiracy to commit third-degree forgery and conspiracy to commit third-degree burglary.

Police reported on March 6 Seckington was arrested on an outstanding arrest warrant stemming from an incident that was reported on Dec. 13, 2018. Police reported the victim reported that Seckington withdrew approximately $56,302.56 worth of checks with cash withdrawals from a Bank of America checking account, which was used for work purposes by the victim. Police reported the investigation revealed that Seckington cashed the checks and made the withdrawals after stealing the checks and account information from the victim’s residence. Seckington was released on a $25,000 surety bond and scheduled to appear in Waterbury Superior Court on March 20.

Dione Hinnant, 23, of 24 Vine St., Waterbury, was charged March 7 with interfering with an officer and criminal impersonation.

Police reported on March 7 at approximately 11:54 p.m. an officer initiated a motor vehicle investigation in the area of New Haven Road at Cross Street. During the traffic stop, police reported, Hinnant interfered with the officer’s investigation by giving the wrong name to avoid being taken into custody for an active arrest warrant out of Waterbury Police Department. Hinnant was released on a $1,500 non-surety bond and scheduled to appear in Waterbury Superior Court on March 20.

Jacqueline Smetana-Retkowski, 44, of 491 Spring St., Naugatuck, was charged March 7 with driving under the influence.

Police reported on March 7 Smetana-Retkowski was arrested after being stopped on Route 63 after the Naugatuck Police Department received a report of an erratic driver heading into Naugatuck from Middlebury. The vehicle was observed to be operated erratically. Upon being stopped, police reported, Smetana-Retkowski appeared to be under the influence of alcohol and or drugs. Smetana-Retkowski was released on bond and scheduled to appear in Waterbury Superior Court on March 21.

Chris Gale Clark, 39, of 104 South St., Waterbury, was charged March 8 with fifth-degree larceny, conspiracy to commit fifth-degree larceny and third-degree criminal trespass.

Police reported on March 8 officers were dispatched to Walmart, 1100 New Haven Road, on a report of a shoplifting from the store. Police reported loss prevention advised that they observed Clark illegally conceal $644.24 worth of merchandise and exit the store without paying for items. Clark was held on a $5,000 surety bond and scheduled to appear in Waterbury Superior Court on March 8.

Radames A. Ortiz, 27, of 50 Highland Ave., Waterbury, was charged March 8 with second-degree failure to appear.

Police reported on March 8 Ortiz was arrested on an active PRAWN warrant for failure to appear in court. Ortiz was released on a $500 surety bond and given a court date of March 21 to appear in Waterbury Superior Court.

Amilcar Assis Dos Santos, 45, of 79 Melbourne St., Naugatuck, was charged March 9 with driving under the influence and evading responsibility.

Police reported on March 9 at approximately 1:51 a.m. an officer initiated a motor vehicle investigation in the area of 469 Rubber Ave. Through the officer’s investigation, police reported, Assis Dos Santos was found to be operating under the influence of alcohol, driving without a license, and Assis Dos Santos was involved in a motor vehicle accident prior to the stop in which he left the scene. Assis Dos Santos was released on a $500 non-surety bond and given a court of March 20 to appear at Waterbury Superior Court.

Pedro R. Aviz, 80, of 48 Goodyear Ave., Naugatuck, was charged March 9 with sixth-degree larceny and conspiracy to commit sixth-degree larceny.

Police reported on March 9 at approximately 12:36 p.m. officers were dispatched to the area of Linden Park at 155 North Main St. Police reported officers spoke to witnesses that observed Aviz take a ladder from behind a fenced in, gated and secured construction area. The witnesses advised the officers that Aviz fled the area in a grey Toyota Tacoma. Through the officers’ continued investigation, police reported, Aviz was identified and arrested shortly after. Aviz was released on a promise to appear and scheduled to appear in Waterbury Superior Court on March 21.

David E. Buchelli, 57, of 33 Fuller St., Naugatuck, was charged March 9 with driving under the influence.

Police reported an officer initiated a motor vehicle investigation on Church Street. Police reported Buchelli was observed without headlights. Through the officer’s investigation, police reported, Buchelli was found to be operating under the influence of alcohol. Buchelli was released on a $2,500 non-surety bond to appear in Waterbury Superior Court on March 21.

Christopher Tyler Kurowski, 22, of 1675 South Main St., Waterbury, was charged March 11 with disorderly conduct, interfering with an officer and two counts of violation of probation.

Police reported on March 11 at approximately 12:37 a.m. officers responded to a residence on a report of a domestic dispute. Police reported Kurowski became involved in an argument with the victim that at some point escalated. When officers arrived, police reported, Kurowski fled the scene. Police reported Kurowski also gave several false names and failed to cooperate with the officer’s investigation once he was taken into custody. Kurowski was held on a surety bond to appear in Waterbury Superior Court on March 12.

Paul Niedmann, 64, of 46 Cherry St., Naugatuck, was charged March 11 with disorderly conduct, interfering with an officer, interfering with an emergency call, third-degree assault and illegal possession of weapon in motor vehicle.

Police reported on March 11 at approximately 12:37 a.m. officers responded to a residence on a report of a domestic dispute. Police reported Niedmann became involved in an argument with the victim that escalated and became physical when, according to the victim, Niedmann push the victim and wouldn’t allow her to leave the residence. When officers arrived, police reported, Niedmann failed to cooperate with the officer’s investigation, and refused to exit a vehicle where he had a knife in arm’s reach. Police reported Niedmann resisted, but was eventually taken into custody. Niedmann was held on a $50,000 surety bond to appear in Waterbury Superior Court on March 12.

John Felice Solla, 66, of 284 Church St., Naugatuck, was charged March 12 with second-degree false incident report and false statement.

Police reported on March 12 Solla was arrested on an active arrest warrant. Police reported the warrant was from an incident where Solla provided a false statement and false information on Jan. 14, 2019 in regards to a false claim of credit card fraud. Solla was released on a $500 non-surety bond to appear in Waterbury Superior Court on March 20.

Rachel Groll, 29, of 23 Salem St., Naugatuck, was charged March 12 with second-degree failure to appear.

Police reported on March 12 Groll was arrested on an active failure to appear arrest warrant. Groll was released on a $1,000 surety bond and scheduled to appear in Waterbury Superior Court on March 20.
