NAUGATUCK — Shirley M. LaBarba, 86, formerly of Bridgeport, entered into rest on Monday, Jan. 16, 2023, in the VITAS hospice unit at Saint Mary’s Hospital in Waterbury. She was the devoted wife of the late Ronald LaBarba for over 45 years until his passing in 2019.
Shirley was born on July 28, 1936, in Bridgeport, daughter of the late Joseph Myers and Dorothy Dungelman. Shirley grew up in Bridgeport and attended local schools and raised her own family there before coming to Naugatuck six years ago.
She was the beloved mother of her six children, Robert Martin and his wife, Shannon, of New York, Mark Sabre and his wife, Andrea, of Seymour; Vance Sabre of Milford, Sharon DeCesare and her husband, David, of Naugatuck, Pamela Sabre of Bridgeport, and Cory Sabre of West Haven; her step-daughter, Yvonne Smith and her husband, David, of Mississippi; her many cherished grandchildren; great-grandchildren; nieces and nephews. She was predeceased by her daughters, Debbie Sabre and Patricia Sabre, her sister, Barbara Rogers, and her step-daughter, Rhonda LaBarba.
A graveside service was noon on Friday, Jan. 20, 2023, at King’s Highway Cemetery, 271 Cherry Street, Milford. The Alderson-Ford Funeral Home of Naugatuck is assisting with her arrangements.
