BEACON FALLS — Ruth Connell Holt, long term resident of Beacon Falls, now in the arms of her Lord and Savior, passed away on April 14, 2022 at her daughter’s home in Iowa. She was cared for by her loving family. Her devotion to her family and firm belief in God supported her throughout and ultimately gave her peace.

Ruth was born on Dec. 6, 1923 in Stratford, to Edward and Anna Connell. She attended school in Stratford. Ruth was one of eleven children. On April 17, 1948, she married Robert Holt. To this union there were five children. Robert, Mary Anne, Rita (Ricki), Kathy, and Trudy.

While raising her children, Ruth went to school to earn her Bachelor’s degree followed by Master’s degree in Elementary Education. She left great impact on her students at Nolan and Lincoln Hayes Schools in Ansonia. Ruth was an active member of Saint Michael’s parish where she enjoyed being a member of the lady’s guild and the small Christian community group.

Ruth was also a member of the Connecticut Teachers Association.

Ruth lived a life devoted to her Catholic faith. She loved and was close to so many. During her travels, she would always come back with a new friend to write to and exchange cards with.

Ruth had so much love to give, especially to her grandchildren. She was always ready for a hot cup of tea and a game of Yahtzee or cards. Ruth asked for so little in life, but she gave so much.

Ruth was preceded in death by her loving husband Robert (1993); her son, Robert; parents; and five sisters and three brothers.

She is survived by her children, Mary Anne (Marion) Kuhlman of Sharon Springs, Kan., Ricki (Bob) Jones of Robins, Iowa, Kathy (Ron) Steelman of Beacon Falls, and Trudy Super of Seward, Neb.; two sisters, Peggy Reynolds of Branford and Jeanne (Jerry) Gardecki of Stratford. She leaves behind 11 grandchildren, 31 great-grandchildren, 4 great-great-grandchildren, and many nieces and nephews.

A Mass of Christian Burial was at Saint Michael’s Church, 25 Maple Ave., Beacon Falls. Interment followed in the family plot at St. James Cemetery, Naugatuck. The wake was at The Miller-Ward Funeral Home, 260 Bank St., Seymour.
