NAUGATUCK — Patricia Ann (McGuiness) Schwartz passed away unexpectedly at Saint Mary’s Hospital on May 13, 2023.

Pat was born in Waterbury on March 18, 1950, daughter of Joseph and Esther McGuiness. Pat attended St. Francis School and then Naugatuck High School, graduating in 1968. She went on to work at Uniroyal in Naugatuck until staying home to raise her children and then her granddaughter, Kaia.

Pat’s favorite job in life was being mom and grandma. She could always be found at sporting events and volunteering in Ben and Erica’s classrooms at St. Francis School, and then at Western School for Kaia. She became a second mom to many of Ben and Erica’s friends and pseudo-grandma to all of Kaia’s friends.

Pat was fortunate to be part of a special group of friends that began in childhood and continued throughout the years. Joanne Rossi, Linda Ginty Tehan, and Cynthia “Chippy” Ashe McKim had a special place in Pat’s heart and provided countless memories over the years.

Pat also looked forward to her dinners spent with cousins. Family was the most important part of life for Pat.

Pat relived motherhood through raising her granddaughter, Kaia.

She gave Kaia a home and was her second mom. She was always supportive in Kaia’s schooling and sports. Pat would volunteer and attend every one of Kaia’s events.

Pat especially loved shopping with her granddaughter and they were often found at the mall. Raising her granddaughter from birth was one of her proudest accomplishments.

When her grandsons, Caden and Colby, were born, Pat took on the challenge of helping out watching the boys for the first few years of their lives. “Grama Grama,” as they came to call her, could always be found at the baseball fields supporting her two favorite ball players, and nothing made her happier than taking them to the snack bar for an ice cream after the games.

Pat is survived by her son, Benjamin Schwartz and his wife Bernadette, of Wolcott; her grandchildren, Kaia Schwartz of Naugatuck, Cameron Giusto of Cheshire, and Caden and Colby Schwartz of Wolcott; her sister, Mary Maureen Paul and her husband David, of Carlsbad, Calif.; and her brother, Thomas McGuiness and his wife Gayle, of Santa Fe, N.M.

She was predeceased by her brother, Michael McGuiness and her daughter, Erica Schwartz.

Calling hours were to be on Thursday, May 18, from 5 to 7 p.m. at Buckmiller Thurston Mengacci Funeral Home, 82 Fairview Ave., Naugatuck. A memorial celebration was to be on Friday at 11 a.m. at the funeral home. Burial was to be at the convenience of the family.

In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to St. Jude Children’s Research Hospital at stjude.org, an organization Pat was proud to support for many years.
