Mr. Petzold was born in Derby on July 16, 1942 a son of the late William L. and Lillian (Monahan) Petzold. He was retired as the owner of Petzold’s Appliance in Seymour. He had continued his father’s business, William L. Petzold’s, Inc. for many years. He was a member of the National Rifle Association and the Seymour Fish and Game Club. He enjoyed being outdoors and taking care of his beautiful yard and many gardens. He loved birds, animals, trees, plants, flowers, hunting and fishing. He raised pheasants and waterfowl and received mention in the 1978 book by Dr. Jean Delacour, “Pheasant Breeding and Care” for his development of the mutation called the Cinnamon Golden Pheasant. Over the years it has gained in popularity and is quite common.
Besides his wife, Mr. Petzold is survived by a daughter, Dawn Kosakowski and her longtime companion Ryan J. Schultz of Prospect; a sister, Jeanne Tassis and her husband Tom of Southington; a brother, James L. Petzold and his wife Nancy of Seymour; his three loving grandchildren, Jesse and Brandon Kosakowski of Prospect, Desiree Kosakowski of Waterbury; his mother-in-law, Marie Rieley, formerly of Prospect; sister-in-laws, Donna Milinder of Inverness, Fla. and Linda Nunez and her husband Louis of North Haven; brother-in-law Robert Rieley and his wife Crystal of Shelton; longtime friends, Adelino Francisco of Waterbury and Frank and Steve Atwood of Prospect and several nieces and nephews.
A memorial service will be held on Friday, Sept. 6, 2013 at 8 p.m. at Prospect Memorial Funeral Home, 72 Waterbury Road, Prospect. Calling hours will be held on Friday Sept. 6, 2013 from 6 p.m. until the time of the service. Burial will be at the convenience of the family.
