William L. Sagendorf

NAUGATUCK — William L. Sagendorf, 79, husband of 43 years to the late Mary A. (Kozenieski) Sagendorf, died peacefully on Oct. 11, 2019 at his home.

Bill was born on Feb. 25, 1940 in Waterbury, a son of the late Howard J. and Genevieve (Osgothorpe) Sagendorf, and lived in Naugatuck most of his life. He was a graduate of Naugatuck High School and he worked at Great Atlantic & Pacific Tea Company, Mott’s Shop Rite Supermarkets, Ro-Jack’s Supermarkets and most recently as a manager at LaBonne’s Epicure Markets. His hobbies included genealogy, photography and wood carving; and Bill was a member of the Connecticut Society of Genealogists, Heritage & Genealogical Society of Montgomery County New York, German Genealogy Group, Dutchess County New York Genealogical Society and Historical Society, Columbia County New York Historical Society and Schoharie County New York Historical Society. Bill was a faithful parishioner of St. Francis of Assisi Church.

Bill is survived by his children, David Sagendorf of Naugatuck, William H. Sagendorf and his wife, Robin Sagendorf, of Naugatuck, Peter Sagendorf and his wife, Jennifer MacAulay, of Torrington, Gretchen Troland and her husband, Laurent Troland Sr., of Bethlehem and Teresa Branco and her husband, Fernando Branco Sr., of Naugatuck; his 10 grandchildren; his two great-grandchildren; and several nieces and nephews. In addition to his wife and his parents, Bill was predeceased by his brother, Robert Sagendorf.

A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated Thursday, Oct. 17 at 10 a.m. at St. Francis of Assisi Church, 318 Church St., Naugatuck. Everyone attending is kindly asked to meet at church. Burial will be in St. James Cemetery at the convenience of the family. Calling hours are Wednesday from 5 to 8 p.m. at the Buckmiller Thurston Mengacci Funeral Home, 82 Fairview Ave., Naugatuck.
