William H. “Bill” Cardow
BEACON FALLS — William H. “Bill” Cardow, 71, husband of Clementina M. “Clem” (Duart) Cardow, passed away on Friday, March 11 at St. Mary’s Hospital surrounded by his family.

William was born in Waterbury on June 19, 1939, son of the late William W. and Gertrude (Duggan) Cardow. He was a longtime resident of Beacon Falls. He was a tool and dye maker for 37 years and had worked at Ideal Products, WCES in Waterbury, Auto Swage in Beacon Falls and USM in Shelton.

Bill served his country in the U. S. Marines and received the 2004 Marine of the Year and Chief Award in 2006 for his dedicated service. He was a life member of the Marine Corps League Valley Detachment Commandant, Department Connecticut Commandant, New England Division vice commandant assistant, Life Member Military Order of Devil Dogs Worthy Pack Leader, and Life Member Second Marine Division. Bill received Pack Dog of the Year, Distinguished Service Award and Distinguished Citizen Silver Medal.

Mr. Cardow was very active in Beacon Falls and the valley. He was a member of the Beacon Falls Seniors, Historical Commission and Historical Society, 125th Anniversary Commission, served as president and equipment manager for the Girls Softball League, and husband of the year for the Junior Womens Club. He was a member of the Naugatuck Valley Pistol League, Seymour Fish and Game Club, Seymour Lions Club, CT Trails Council of Girl Scouts, RAPE Committee, CT Military Museum and Library. He also co-chaired, along with his wife, a committee to purchase the JAWS of Life for the town in memory of Frank Duart. Bill was also co-owner of Country Mouse Antiques.

Besides his wife, he leaves nine daughters: Kim Irene Colangelo and her husband Gary of St. Johsbury, Vt., June Cardow of Seymour, Tina LeVasseur and her husband Michael Jr. of Becket, Mass., Holly Burch and her husband Shawn of Oxford, Kimberly Nasinka and her husband John of Waterbury, Korena Cave and her husband Harry of Oakville, Michele Ganavage and Joseph Norton, Jr. of Naugatuck, Sandra Descault and her husband John of Spring Hill, Fla., Dawn Farina and her husband Robert of Wolcott,
A brother in law: John Duart, Jr. and Sue Green; 23 grandchildren, three great-grandsons and several nieces and nephews.

He was predeceased by his brother Richard Cardow.

A mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated on Tuesday, March 15 at 12 p.m. at St. Michael’s Church, 25 Maple Ave., Beacon Falls. Friends are asked to meet directly at the church at 11:45 a.m. Military honors will be accorded at church. Calling hours will be held on Monday from 4 p.m. to 8 p.m. at the Naugatuck Valley Memorial/Fitzgerald Zembruski Funeral Home, 240 North Main St., Naugatuck.
