NAUGATUCK- Mr. Walter Frank Manis, Jr., 69 of Naugatuck, passed away Saturday Feb. 5, at the Hartford Hospital.

Walter was born in Waterbury, Feb. 5, 1942, a son of the late Walter F. Manis, Sr. and Bertha (Fogel) Manis and was educated in the Naugatuck school system, graduating from Naugatuck High School.  He was a U.S. Air Force veteran, during the Vietnam conflict and a member of the Immanuel Evangelical Church.  He retired in 2007 from Pratt & Whitney Aircraft after 38 years of service. He was a great fan of the University of Connecticut Huskies women’s basketball team and enjoyed the outdoors and gardening, and his two dogs, Toby and Tinkerbelle.

He leaves his children, Robert Manis, Robin Manis and Randi Banderia and her husband Ed all of Waterbury, and Heather Manis and Kevin Manis of Naugatuck; one sister, Bertha Marie Inskid of St. Cloud, Fla.; three grandchildren, Michael Demers, Jr., Matthew Demers, and Edward Banderia, Jr.  He was predeceased by a sister Marlene Manis.

Funeral services will be held on Wednesday Feb. 9, at 1 p.m. at the Immanuel Evangelical Church 170 Coen St., Naugatuck.  Burial will be in Grove Cemetery with full military honors at the convenience of the family.

Friends may call at the Alderson Funeral Home of Naugatuck, 201 Meadow St. on Tuesday Feb. 8, from 6 p.m. to 8 pm.  Members of the Naugatuck Veterans Council will meet at the funeral home at 7:15 pm.
