OAKVILLE — Mrs. Victoria R. (Siwanowicz) Sabia, 89, of Hillcrest Avenue, Oakville passed away at her home surrounded by her family on Saturday, Feb. 16, 2013 after a brief illness. She was the widow of Louis Sabia.

Mrs. Sabia was born in Naugatuck on Nov. 9, 1923, a daughter of the late Victor and Victoria (Strusinski) Siwanowicz. She was a longtime Naugatuck resident before moving to Oakville where she has resided for 33 years. She was a 1940 graduate of Laurelton Hall and attended UConn. She worked as an LPN for Saint Mary’s Hospital for five years and retired after ten years of service from Glendale Health Center. She enjoyed spending time with her family, especially on trips to Cape Cod throughout the year visiting thrift stores. She was a communicant of St. Mary Magdalen Church where she served as a former Eucharistic Minister.

She leaves her son, David Sabia and his wife Karen of Naugatuck; two daughters, Beverlee Sabia of Waterbury, Cathy Smith and her husband Bob of Watertown; nine grandchildren, Karen, Jeffrey, Tracey, Paula, Tory, Jeremy, Jonathan, Dave, and Nick; great-grandchildren, Cadie, Cameron, Madeline, Abby, Jackie, Jack, and Joey; and several nieces and nephews. She is also survived by her loving sister-in-law, Gloria Siwanowicz.

She was predeceased by her siblings, Henrietta Rice, Walter Siwanowicz, Wanda Rojowski, Sophie Scully, Mildred Wasdo, Victor Siwanowicz, and Paul Siwanowicz.

A mass of Christian burial will be celebrated Wednesday, Feb. 20 at 11 a.m. at St. Mary Magdalen Church, 145 Buckingham St., Oakville. Friends are asked to meet directly at the church at 10:45 a.m. Burial will be in St. James Cemetery, Cross Street, Naugatuck at the family’s convenience. Calling hours will be held at the Naugatuck Valley Memorial/Fitzgerald Zembruski Funeral Home, 240 North Main St., Naugatuck on Tuesday from 5 to 7 p.m.
