NAUGATUCK — Mr. Steven W. Jaskiewicz, 89, of Naugatuck, passed away on Friday, Feb. 14, 2014 at Saint Mary’s Hospital after a long illness. He was the husband of Florence D. (Swenton) Jaskiewicz.
Mr. Jaskiewicz was born in Union City on March 12, 1924, a son of the late Alexander and Stella (Kawecki) Jaskiewicz. He was a lifelong Naugatuck resident and an Army Air Corp. veteran serving during World War II. He retired after many years from F.B. Matson. He was a member of the Catholic War Veterans Post 708 and served as commander for the State of Connecticut and was also a member of the Polish Falcon’s Nest 65. He enjoyed Polka dancing, fly fishing, and trips to the casino. He was a communicant of St. Hedwig Church.
Besides his wife of 67 years, he leaves his daughter, Karen Myers of Naugatuck; brother, Stanley Jaskiewicz of Naugatuck; grandsons, Jonathan Myers of Jackson, Wyo. and Justin Jaskiewicz of Manchester, N.H.; several nieces and nephews. He was predeceased by his son, Donald Jaskiewicz; brother, William Jaskiewicz; step-brother, Richard Pruchnicki; step-sister, Dorothy Cross.
A mass of Christian burial will be celebrated on Wednesday, Feb. 19 at 10:30 a.m. at St. Hedwig Church. Friends are asked to meet directly at the church at 10:15 a.m. Burial with military honors will follow in St. James Cemetery, Cross Street, Naugatuck. Call hours will be held at the Naugatuck Valley Memorial/Fitzgerald Zembruski Funeral Home, 240 North Main St., Naugatuck on Tuesday from 5 to 7 p.m. Members of the Naugatuck Veteran’s Council will assemble at 6:15 p.m.
