Sarah Schildgen

Litchfield-Sarah “Sally” (O’Brien) Schildgen, 96 passed away peacefully in her sleep on December 18, 2010.

Sally was born May 5, 1914 in Waterbury , daughter of Mary Fielding O’Brien and Patrick O’Brien. She was a graduate of Wilby High School and had the lead in her senior class play, of which she was quite proud. She was the wife of Francis Schildgen and a resident of Naugatuck for most of her life. Sally was an independent woman of many accomplishments: executive secretary for Diamond Ginger Ale and Uniroyal, talented singer and piano player, a lover of classical music (especially opera), traveler, and voracious reader, from modern mystery and poetry to the classics. Sally was also a resident of Florida for twenty-five years. While there she remained active in her church, church functions, and activities with new friends. Most of all, Sally was known for her love of family. Sally took great delight in her children and all her grandchildren and great-grandchildren, and they responded in kind.

Sally is survived by her three children, Carol Schildgen of New York City , Lois Devino of Oxford , and Dr. Frank Schildgen and his wife, Sharon of Litchfield; her grandchildren, Debora Devino of Oxford, Sara Devino Posta of Ansonia., Amy Schildgen Sobek of Litchfield, Taylor Schildgen of Germany , and Frank Schildgen of Litchfield; great-grandchildren, Cedar, Sage, Isaac, Jenna, Dane, Benjamin, Noah, and Isabel. She will be tearfully missed by all.

A funeral mass will be held on Thursday, December 30, 2010 at 10:00 a.m. at St. Francis Church, 318 Church Street, Naugatuck . Burial will be a private function at a later time. There are no calling hours and the Buckmiller Brothers Funeral Home, 82 Fairview Ave, Naugatuck is in charge of the arrangements.
