Obituary: Russell M. Spencer

Waterbury – Mr. Russell M. Spencer, age 59, died Sunday Jan. 23, at his home after a long illness. He was the beloved husband of Sally (Bauer) Spencer for 30 years.

Mr. Spencer was born in Waterbury, and was the son of the late Russell F. and Elizabeth (Birmingham) Spencer. He was retired from the state of Connecticut Department of Health where he worked as the supervising chemist for 33 years and was a communicant of St. Anthony’s Roman Catholic Church in Prospect.

He was a 1973 graduate of Fairfield University. He was a licensed pilot and ham radio operator. He also enjoyed the outdoors, hiking, reading and horseback riding. Besides his wife, Mr. Spencer is survived by his mother in law and father in law: Herbert and Barbara Bauer of Burlington, two brother in laws and sister in laws: Scott and Karen Bauer of New Hartford, his beloved niece Alexandra Bauer of New Hartford, and Steve and Maureen Bauer of Unionville. In addition the following aunts: Mary Spencer of Terryville, Corrine Trepanier of Plainville, Jeanette Nelson of Bristol, and Thelma Spencer of Plainville.

The family would like to thank the doctors and staff from the Harold Leever Center and Waterbury VNA for all the wonderful care he received from them.

Private funeral services and burial will be held at the convenience of the family. There are no calling hours. The Buckmiller Brothers Funeral Home 26 Waterbury Road, Route 69, Prospect is in charge of arrangements.
