PROSPECT — Roberta Mary (Stein) Atwood, 89, of Prospect, passed away after a long illness on Saturday, June 19, 2021, at the Lutheran Home in Southbury. She was the wife of the late Franklin Atwood.

She was born on Oct. 21, 1931, in Bronx, N.Y, daughter of the late Julius and Marian (Brewster) Stein. Prior to her retirement, Roberta worked for Risdon Manufacturing as a machine operator. She was a longtime parishioner of St. Anthony Church. During her lifetime, she treasured countless animals that became a part of the family. She was a loving and dedicated mother and grandmother, and always had great pride in planning the holidays around them.

Roberta is survived by her four children, Lynn Johnson and husband, Jordan, of Cheshire, Franklin Atwood and wife, Suzanne, of Prospect, Steven Atwood and wife, Deborah, of Prospect and Leigh Aronin and husband, Steven, of Naugatuck; six grandchildren, Brooke Ocampo and husband, James, Amber Atwood, Allyson Atwood, Jessica Aronin, Jeffrey Aronin and Jacqueline Aronin; and three great-grandchildren, James Cash Ocampo, Charles Ocampo and Reagan Ocampo; along with several nieces and nephews.

The family would like to give a thank you to all the staff at the Lutheran Home for the love and support given to mom during her time there, but most especially Rosalyn Turner who went above and beyond from the heart.

A Mass of Christian Burial will be at 11 a.m. on Thursday, June 24, at St. Anthony Church, 4 Union City Road, Prospect. Burial will follow at St. James Cemetery, Naugatuck. The Prospect Memorial Funeral Home, 72 Waterbury Road, Prospect, is assisting the family with arrangements.

In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made to the American Society for the Prevention of Cruelty to Animals (ASPCA), 424 E. 92nd St, New York, NY 10128-6804.
