Obituary: Robert F. Jones

NAUGATUCK — Robert F. Jones, 75, passed away on Sunday, April 29, 2012, at the Grove Manor Nursing Home in Waterbury. He was the husband of Caroline Lubanda Jones.

Robert was born on Oct. 12, 1936, in Yatesville, Pa., and was the son of the late Lloyd and Irene Jones. Robert was a U.S. Army veteran serving in Korea. He served 22 years in the Army Reserve, retiring in 1996 from the 405th Combat Hospital in West Hartford. He also became a supernumerary for the Naugatuck Police Department in the late 1960s until the early 1970s. He was a member of the VFW Post 201 in Waterbury and the AOH of Naugatuck and a past president of the Holy Name Society at St. Vincent’s Church in Naugatuck.

Robert was very proud of his grandson, Tim, who has served two tours with the U.S. Marines in the Middle East. Robert enjoyed fishing, hunting and gardening, but most of all enjoyed spending time with his loving grandchildren. Robert was very proud of his Irish heritage.

Besides his loving wife, Caroline, of 54 years, he leaves three sons, Michael and his wife, Geralyn, of Marlboro, N.Y., Kevin and his wife, Delores, of Poughkeepsie, N.Y., Dennis and his wife, Kim, of Naugatuck; one daughter, Teri Botta and her husband, William, of Naugatuck; and one sister, Ann Barbieri and her husband, Vincent, who was Robert’s fishing and hunting partner for more than 45 years. Robert also leaves his loving grandchildren, Nicole Ferris and her husband, Gregg, Timothy Larrabee and his wife, Amanda, Katie and Matthew Jones, Danielle Botta, Christopher and Michael Jones, all of Naugatuck, Jeremy and his wife, Lorie, Chrissy, Travis and Sandy, all of Poughkeepsie, N.Y.; and three great-grandchildren, Kaitlyn, Wyatt and Haylee, also of Poughkeepsie, N.Y. Robert leaves his special sister and brothers-in-law, nieces, nephews and cousins.

He is predeceased by one brother, Lloyd J. Jones.

Funeral services for Robert will be celebrated on Wednesday, May 2, 2012, at 10:30 a.m. at St. Francis of Assisi Church in Naugatuck. All are asked to meet at the church in the morning. Full military honors will be accorded in Grove Cemetery in Naugatuck. Calling hours will be held on Tuesday from 5 to 8 p.m. at the Buckmiller Brothers Funeral Home, 26 Waterbury Road, Route 69, Prospect.
