Obituary: Philip McGrath Jr.

WATERBURY — Mr. Philip E. McGrath, Jr., 52, of Waterbury, passed peacefully into a better life on Saturday, April 21, 2012 at his home.

Mr. McGrath was born in Waterbury on Sept. 1, 1959 a son of the late Philip E. McGrath, Sr. and the late Margery (Dillon) McGrath. He was a life-long resident of Waterbury, a graduate of Sacred Heart High School and was retired from the City of Waterbury Parks Department. For many years he tended the greens at the city’s golf courses and took great pride in his work. Phil was a former member of the Waterbury Chapter of the Ancient Order of Hibernians and had a great interest in all types of music. He was an avid fan of all of Boston’s professional sports teams.

Phil is survived by two sisters, Kathy McGrath and Dory McGrath of Newington and a brother, John McGrath of Waterbury.

The funeral will be held on Wednesday, April 25, 2012 at 10:30 a.m. from the Buckmiller Brothers Funeral Home, 26 Waterbury Road, Route 69, Prospect to St. Anthony Roman Catholic Church, 4 Union City Road, Prospect for a mass at 11 a.m. Burial will follow in a cemetery to be announced. Friends may call at the funeral home on Wednesday, April 25, 2012 from 9 to 10:30 a.m.
