Obituary: Nancy L. (Rogers) Anthony

NAUGATUCK — Nancy L. (Rogers) Anthony, a sassy 78 years young, died Tuesday, Jan. 3, 2012 at her home in Naugatuck. She was the widow of James M. Anthony, Sr.

Nancy was born on April 18, 1933 in South Bend, Ind. the only child of Lyle V. and Hazel I. (Getchell) Rogers. She was a graduate of the South Bend school system and attended the nursing program at Ball State University, Muncie, Ind. prior to her marriage in 1952. An avid and rabid knitter, Nancy taught knitting for many years. In 1969, she and her husband relocated to Naugatuck. After getting her children raised and finally off on their own, she became a Licensed Practical Nurse. Both she and her daughter completed the nursing program at Naugatuck Valley Community Technical College graduating in 1991 with honors. Nancy worked many years as a Registered Nurse at Waterbury Hospital primarily on Pomeroy 5 before retiring. Her greatest love was her family and her Maine Coon cats.

She leaves her daughter, Marilyn J. Anthony of Waterbury; two sons, James M. “Jay” Anthony, Jr. of Waterbury and Paul L. Anthony of New Britain; four granddaughters, Michaela L. Anthony and Margaret R. Anthony both of Moorestown, N.J., Cailin R. Corbett of Venice, Calif. and Kathryn M. Anthony of Plantsville.

Funeral services will be held on Saturday, Jan. 7, 2012 at 10 a.m. directly at St. John’s Episcopal Church, 16 Church St., Waterbury. Burial will follow in Grove Cemetery, Naugatuck. Calling hours will be held on Friday from 5 to 8 p.m. at the Bergin Funeral Home, 290 East Main St., Waterbury.
