NAUGATUCK — Michael Salvatore Falcha Jr., 72, of Naugatuck, died at Yale New Haven Hospital on Dec. 5, 2020, after a brief illness. He was the beloved husband of Rosemary (DeCarlo) Falcha for 43 years.

Michael was born in Waterbury on Sept. 10, 1948, son of the late Michael and Angeline (Santarsiere) Falcha. He graduated from Naugatuck High School and afterwards served in the United States Army. Michael retired from the United States Postal Service as postmaster of Portland, Conn., after 43 years of service. He held several leadership positions during his tenure at USPS. As a retirement job, he was presently working part-time at Honda of Watertown.
Michael was also a Parks and Recreation commissioner for the Borough of Naugatuck for 17 years and served as vice chairman. He was also a member of the Naugatuck Democratic Town Committee and American Legion Post 17.

One of Michael’s greatest sources of joy was being involved with the Peter J. Foley Little League for 36 years. Both his sons and grandchildren played in this league. His involvement in the league included holding several positions such as president, vice president, treasurer, umpiring chief, player agent, coach, director and kitchen manager. In 2010, the Naugatuck Alumni Association honored him for his devotion and passion for the league. He enjoyed providing for the children of Naugatuck in countless ways and this was always a great source of pride for him. Peter J. Foley Little League in 2019 renamed its kitchen to Mike’s Place in honor of him and his dedication to the league.

Besides Rosemary, his wife of 43 years, he is survived by sons, Michael and his wife, Kelsey, Falcha of Naugatuck, and Brian Falcha of Naugatuck; twin brother, Salvatore Falcha of Boynton Beach, Fla.; sister, Linda Bragg and her husband, Jeff Bragg, of Middlebury; his predeceased sister, Sandra Falcha; several nieces and nephews; and his beloved grandchildren, Anthony and Gianna Falcha.

Due to the circumstances surrounding COVID-19, a private service is being held. Arrangements have been entrusted to the Buckmiller Thurston Mengacci Funeral Home, 82 Fairview Ave., Naugatuck.
