Michael A. Mudry

BEACON FALLS — Michael A. Mudry, 79, of Beacon Falls, the beloved husband of Jeanette Tosolini Mudry, entered into eternal rest peacefully on Thursday, Nov. 12, 2020, at Yale New Haven Hospital.

Michael was born in New Haven on Oct. 11, 1941, the loving son of the late Michael G. and Helen Merkowitz Mudry. He graduated from Ansonia High School, Class of 1958. He attended Ithaca College and, after graduation, he continued his studies at the University of Bridgeport, where he earned a master’s degree in education. He was appointed athletic director at Seymour High School in 1985 and served in that position for 14 years, before retiring in 1999. Under his direction, many of Seymour High School’s athletic teams qualified for the state tournaments and were successful in winning several. Mike was the head baseball coach at Seymour High School from 1983-1986, and in his first year he guided the Wildcats to a quarterfinal contest. His teams qualified for the state tournament in two of his three years as head baseball coach, with a compiled record of 25-16. He also served as an assistant football coach at Seymour Junior High and High School for 10 years.

Mike was a longtime member of St. Michael’s RC Church, Beacon Falls, and a member of the Knights of Columbus Aurora Council #53. He enjoyed many things, such as swimming, biking, and traveling all over the world with his wife, where they made friends wherever they went. He looked forward to their annual trips to Cape Hatteras with the Hatteras Gang. Every year, Mike and his wife also spent several weeks with their friends in Aruba, where the group would take turns getting up at the crack of dawn to win a spot under a hut. Mike loved animals, and was an avid fan of the N.Y. Yankees, UConn women’s basketball and Notre Dame. He will be sadly missed but will remain forever in our hearts.

In addition to his beloved wife, Jeanette, his loving family includes his son, Michael K. Mudry of Newington; his daughter, Michelle Lipar and her husband, David, of Simsbury; five cherished grandchildren and several nieces and nephews. He was predeceased by his sister, Helen Thomas.

The family would like to thank the caring staff at YNHH and VITAS for providing comfort to Mike in his last few days.

Due to the current health conditions affecting us all at this time, all funeral services will be private. A celebration of Michael’s life will be planned at a later date. The Miller-Ward Funeral Home, 260 Bank St., Seymour, is compassionately caring for the family.

In lieu of flowers, memorial gifts in Michael’s memory may be made to The American Heart Association or the ASPCA, through the funeral home.
