NAUGATUCK — Maureen E. Murray passed away unexpectedly at her home on January 6, 2014, after several months of treatment for cancer.

Maureen was born on Jan. 23, 1949 to William and Margery (Browne) Murray. She leaves her devoted sister, Colleen Congero of Hardwick, Mass.; six nieces and nephews, who considered their auntie Maur to be the best aunt ever, Christopher and Ryan Congero and Nicole Hamm all of Massachusetts, Sean Murray of Wolcott, Melissa Murray of Naugatuck, and Megan Murray of Kennesaw, Ga. She also leaves her cherished great-nieces and nephews, Kassandra Fruin, Lyla, Reagan and Colin Murray and Maria Rose Hamm. Her brother, Kevin Murray predeceased her on June 11, 2013.

Maureen was a devoted aunt, sister and friend; she loved everyone dearly and never missed a family event. She loved her little blue VW Beetle, always ready to drive up to Massachusetts or to the casino with her best friend Pat Bosco. In more recent years Maureen found great pleasure in volunteering her free time at the Palace Theater in Waterbury.

Maureen worked in accounting her whole career and was presently employed by Clermont Associates in Prospect. She also worked and taught for many years at H&R Block and began her working days at Risdon Mfg. Co. She was a communicant of St. Vincent Ferrer Church in Naugatuck.

Maureen was a strong, independent woman, who lived her life on her own terms, but more than anything, she was dedicated to her family and friends, and her love will live on in our memories and in our hearts.

Her funeral will be held on Saturday, Jan. 11 at 10:15 a.m. from the Naugatuck Valley Memorial/Fitzgerald Zembruski Funeral Home, 240 North Main St., Naugatuck to St. Vincent Ferrer Church, 1006 New Haven Road, Naugatuck for a mass of Christian burial at 11 a.m. Burial will follow in St. James Cemetery, Cross Street, Naugatuck. Calling hours will be held on Friday evening from 4 to 7 p.m.

The family requests in lieu of flowers, please donate to the Palace Theater Volunteer Memorial Fund by visiting palacetheaterct.org or mail to: 100 East Main St., Waterbury, CT 06702, Attn: Natalie Lawlor. The Palace was near and dear to Maureen’s heart.
