He was born Nov. 13, 1919, and has resided in the city of Waterbury his entire life. He was a graduate of B.W. Tinker Grammar School in 1935. He spent 37 months overseas in the U.S. Army Co. B, 125th Quartermaster Regt. during World War II. For 30 years, he worked at Sunbeam Bread Raymond Baking Company on East Main Street. Martin’s hobbies included golfing, gardening, OTB, scratch tickets, being an active member of Waterbury’s First Lutheran Church, and spending time with his family. From 1999-2010, he worked for GWIM’s (Greater Waterbury Interfaith Ministries) soup kitchen at St. John’s Church until the age of 90.

Martin leaves behind his daughter and caregiver, Lydia LeBlanc and husband, Lawrence LeBlanc (predeceased); his two granddaughters, Stephanie Fusco and husband, Thomas Fusco (predeceased), and Alison Tirado and husband, George Tirado Jr.; and his two great-grandchildren, Anthony and Gabriella Tirado. A special acknowledgement for his loved ones

This man spent the majority of his life caring for others….he is an extraordinary example of what a true American and Waterburian is, and yet he is the one who felt truly blessed.

Services will be held at a later date. The Naugatuck Valley Memorial/Fitzgerald-Zembruski Funeral Home, 240 North Main St., Naugatuck, is assisting the family with arrangements.
