PROSPECT — Lisa E. Mason, 59, of Prospect passed away peacefully surrounded by her closest friends after a long and courageous battle with cancer.

Lisa graduated from Naugatuck High School in the Class of 1971. Always a competitor, Lisa was a renowned member of the Naugatuck Nuggets women’s softball team. She received an associate’s degree from Dean Jr. College, a bachelor’s degree from the University of Connecticut and a master’s degree from University of Bridgeport.

After a long successful career as a golf sales representative for McGregor and Reebok, she found her passion and began her teaching career at North End Middle School in Waterbury, where she brought history to life for her students. She also served with distinction as a union representative.

Elected to the Board of Aldermen in 1997, she was a devoted public servant and ever vigilant watchdog for the City of Waterbury. In 1998, Lisa was voted the Best Political Newcomer in a public opinion poll conducted by the Waterbury Observer. She served as a city plan commissioner, president of the East End Community Club and was a member of the Board of Directors of Brass City Harvest. After moving to Prospect, she continued her public service as a member of the Board of Assessment Appeal.

She was most known for her sense of style with signature pieces consisting of crisp white shirts, glitter glam glasses, and Gucci shoes. She will be remembered for her wit, depth of knowledge and her ability to clearly articulate her thoughts and opinions. A fan of talk radio, her distinctive voice could often be heard across the local radio airwaves.

Lisa is survived by her mother, Dorothy Hutt Mason, her childhood friend Judy DiVito and Judy’s children Allie and Jeff (her godson). Lisa is also survived by aunts, uncles, cousins and her students.

She is predeceased by her devoted father, Edward, and her beloved brother, Edward III (Teddy).
