SEYMOUR — Joseph V. Krasnicki, Sr., 67, of Seymour, was born on Dec. 18, 1944 at Griffin Hosptial, Derby, and passed away there on Dec. 18, 2011 with family at his bedside.

Joe was an alter boy at St. Michael’s Church in Derby during grammar school and graduated from Shelton High School.

Joe was a quiet hardworking man with a quick sense of humor who dedicated himself to taking care of his family. He was the epitome of the big, strong silent-type, yet gentle and so patient, always the “kids” teddy-bear playmate, and Jan’s loving soul-mate. His children looked up to him for his calming guidance and clever ideas, and now called him best friend. Joe’s grandchildren loved time spent talking with “Poppy” and the hours of wisdom he passed on through shared hobbies and the many original toys and project he built for them or helped guide them to create. He loved being big brother to “Am” (Ann Marie) and the hours spent sharing stories about Mom and Dad and their family childhood antics.

Joe got much satisfaction fixing everything to give it a second and third life. He would jokingly say, “It may not always look the prettiest, but I guarantee it will be around longer than we will.” Joe loved the challenge of building projects from a picture or someone’s obscure idea, always to our delight. He wasn’t content until he designed and crafted another ingenious invention or tool to solve someone’s dilemma to make their life easier. He just loved the thrill of a new challenge.

Joe was very well read in a variety of area (he modestly called trivia). He loved to listen to the same Polish music station his parents had enjoyed for over forty years, operate heavy equipment, work with his big strong hands, especially outdoors, and socialize with the many friends and members of the club he loved maintaining and served on both the voting and executive committees for over 20 years.

He is survived by his wife and high school sweetheart, Janice (Capece) Krasnicki and devoted children Amy Krasnicki, and Joseph V., Jr. and his dear wife Tamara (Armstrong) Krasnicki; precious grandchildren Lisa, Stuart and Vanessa Krasnicki; loving sister, Ann Marie Christian and her husband James; supportive in-laws and several cousins, nieces and nephews.

He was predeceased by his parents, Joseph F. and Anna (Svehlak) Krasnicki of Shelton and infant daughter, Theresa Krasnicki.

Friends may greet the family on Wednesday from 8 a.m. to 10 a.m. at the Riverview Funeral Home, 390 River Road, Shelton. His funeral procession will leave the funeral home at 10:30 a.m. for a mass of Christian burial at 11 a.m. in St. Michael Church, Derby. Burial will follow in St. Michael Cemetery, Derby.
