BRISTOL — Mr. Joseph R. Charette, 82, died Saturday, Sept. 28, 2013 at St. Mary’s Hospital in Waterbury. He was the husband of the late Rena Marie (Dubois) Charette.

Mr. Charette was born in Van Buren, Maine on Jan. 7, 1931 a son of the late Fred and Julia (Lebel) Charette. Before his retirement he owned and operated Charette Steel in Bristol. He had also formerly worked at Pratt and Whitney and was a communicant of St. Gregory Roman Catholic Church in Bristol.

Mr. Charette was a U.S. Army veteran having proudly served his country during the Korean War.

Mr. Charette is survived by a daughter, Kori Ann Charette of Prospect; four sons, Douglas Charette of Bristol, Steven Charette of Phoenix, Ariz., Wayne Charette of Bristol and Richard Charette of Montgomery Ala.; two sisters, Joyce Kenyon of Palm Desert Springs, Calif., and Ilene Thomas-Lafferty of Beacon Falls; two brothers, Fred Charette of Las Vegas, Nev., and Vernon Charette of Dayton, Ohio; four grandchildren, Aimee M. Defosses, Tara Charette-Sikora, David Charette and Nicole Charette-Judd; great-grandchildren and several nieces and nephews. He was predeceased by a son, Alan Charette and a granddaughter, Dayna Charette and three brothers, Franklin, Alfred and Wallace Charette.

The funeral will be held on Saturday, Oct. 12, 2013 at 11:30 a.m. from Prospect Memorial Funeral Home, 72 Waterbury Road, Prospect to St. Anthony Roman Catholic Church, 4 Union City Road, Prospect for a mass at noon. Full military honors will be presented at the church immediately following the mass. Burial will be at the convenience of the family. Calling hours will be held at the funeral home on Saturday, Oct. 12, 2013 from 8:30 to 11:30 a.m.
