SOUTHINGTON — Joseph J. “Jody” Swierbitowicz, Jr., 61, passed away suddenly on Thursday, April 11, 2013.

Jody was born on Jan. 27, 1952 in Waterbury, a son of the late Joseph J. Swierbitowicz, Sr. and Lillian (Farina) Swierbitowicz of Naugatuck. He was a veteran of the U.S. Marine Corps having served in the Vietnam War. He enjoyed drag racing, going to the movies and was an avid reader. Jody decided to better his life by going back to school and getting his bachelor’s degree in civil engineering from UConn. He was an inspector for the Department of Transportation.

Besides his mother he is survived by his sister, Nancy Hollis of Glastonbury; his brother, Robert Swierbitowicz and his wife Marita of Naugatuck; his three nephews William, Robert and Ronald Swierbitowicz. He will also be missed by many cousins and friends but most of all by the love of his life, Lorrie (Wedmore) Galek of Waterbury.

The funeral will be held on Wednesday, April 17, 2013 at 8:30 a.m. from the Buckmiller Brothers Funeral Home, 82 Fairview Ave., Naugatuck to St. Francis of Assisi Church for a mass at 9 a.m. Burial will be in St. James Cemetery. The family will receive friends at the funeral home on Tuesday evening from 5 to 7 p.m.
