NAUGATUCK –John S. Kirdzik, 92, of Naugatuck, passed away unexpectedly on Tuesday, December 21, 2010 at Saint Mary’s Hospital. He was the widower of Stephanie J. (Zdrowski) Kirdzik.

Mr. Kirdzik was born in Union City on July 30, 1918, a son of the late Joseph S. and Constance (Iwaszka) Kirdzik. He was a lifelong Naugatuck resident and retired from Platt Brothers after many years of service. He was an Army Veteran serving during World War II, participating in the Battle of the Bulge and was a

prisoner of war. He was a member of the Polish Falcons, the Polish American Club, and the Catholic War Veterans. He was a communicant of St. Hedwig Church and a member of the Holy Name Society.

He leaves a son, Walter Kirdzik of Naugatuck; a daughter, Julie Ann Carlson and her husband John of Naugatuck; a brother, Stephen Kirdzik of Naugatuck; a sister, Mary Zdrodowski of Naugatuck; five grandchildren; six great-grandchildren; and several nieces and nephews. He was predeceased by his son Richard Kirdzik and his grandson John Carlson.

His funeral will be held on Thursday December 23, 2010 at 9:15AM from the Naugatuck Valley Memorial/Fitzgerald Zembruski Funeral Home, 240 North Main Street, Naugatuck to St. Hedwig Church, Naugatuck for a Mass of Christian Burial at 10 a.m. Burial with full military honors will follow in St. James Cemetery, Cross Street, Naugatuck. Calling hours will be held at the funeral home on Wednesday from 5-7PM. Members of the Naugatuck Veteran’s Council will meet at the funeral home on Wednesday at 6:45 p.m. Memorial contributions may be made to either St. Hedwig Church or St. Hedwig School, 32 Golden Hill Street, Naugatuck, CT 06770.
