PROSPECT — John J. “Jack” Leary, 84, passed away on Thursday, Dec. 22, at St. Mary’s Hospital. He was the husband of Elizabeth (Kappeler) Leary.

Mr. Leary was born on Nov.9, 1927 in Waterbury the son of the late John J. and Helen (Boice) Leary. He was retired from CL&P where he worked as a foreman in the storeroom for over 54 years. He was a U.S. Army Veteran having served in the Korean War. He was an active member of the Prospect Senior Center where he played pool with his friends every day. He was a drummer in the East End Community Club Drum Corps in Waterbury and was a drum instructor for several local Drum Corps.

Besides his loving wife of Prospect he is survived by his two daughters, Patricia Horton and her husband Al of Crofton, Md., and Lisa Lowry and her husband Daniel of Plainville; his sister-in-law and brother-in-law, Lois and Norton Goss of Niantic. He is also survived by his three grandchildren, Aaron Benoit, Kathleen Benoit and Abigail Lowry, and by Sean Farrell who was like a son to him. He also leaves many nieces and nephews.

The funeral will be held on Tuesday, Dec. 27, at 9:30 a.m. from the Buckmiller Brothers Funeral Home, 26 Waterbury Road, Route 69 Prospect to St. Anthony’s Roman Catholic Church for a mass at 10 a.m. Burial will be in Prospect Cemetery. Friends may call at the funeral home on Monday evening from 4 p.m. to 7 p.m.
