NAUGATUCK — John B. Rodgers, 85, of 46 Mulberry St., passed away on Tuesday, Sept. 6, at his home surrounded by his loving family. He was husband of Carol (Quinn) Rodgers.
John was born in Edinburgh, Scotland on Sept.9, 1925, son of the late James and Margaret (Barron) Rodgers. He resided in Naugatuck since 2001 and retired from Martin’s Famous Pastry Shop in Pennsylvania after many years of service. He was a communicant of St. Vincent Ferrer Church and was an avid bowler and billiard player.
John served his country in the U. St. Army in the 308th Field Infantry during World War II. He was in the Battle of the Bulge and was a Purple Heart Recipient. He was also a member of the Catholic War Veterans.
Besides his wife of 55 years, he leaves two sons, John and Michael Rodgers, both of Naugatuck; a daughter, Patricia Baron of Weston, Fla.; a sister Margaret Weihs of Middle Village, N.Y.; seven grandchildren; several nieces and nephews.
His funeral will be held on Friday, Sept. 9, (on John’s 86th birthday), at 9:15 a.m. from the Naugatuck Valley Memorial/Fitzgerald Zembruski Funeral Home, 240 North Main St., Naugatuck, to St. Vincent Ferrer Church, 1006 New Haven Road, Naugatuck for a mass of Christian burial at 10 a.m. Military honors will be accorded at the church. Burial will follow in State Veterans Cemetery, Middletown. Calling hours will be held at the funeral home on Thursday evening from 6 p.m. to 8 p.m. Members of the Naugatuck Veteran’s Council will meet at the funeral home at 7:15 p.m.
