Jean C. Rushworth

BETHANY — Jean C. Rushworth passed away on Friday, May 11. She was the beloved wife of Leslie E. Rushworth, whom she married April 9, 1960.

Jean was born Nov. 20, 1939 in Bridgeport, daughter of the late Archie and Lillian Hakey. Both she and her husband were the owners of Eastside Deli in Naugatuck. Jean was previously employed by the town of Bethany as a bookkeeper for the Board of Education. She returned to the Bethany Town Hall in 1994 to work as the assessor’s clerk and enjoyed working with her many close friends.

Jean was the loving mother of sons, Jeffrey L. and Leslie P. and Leslie’s fiancée Diana Serrini. She is also survived by three well-loved grandchildren, Kara and fiancée Matt, Adam, and Alex, along with Allison Leigh and Christian Barone; brother, Donald Hakey and Ted’s widow, sister-in-law Mary Hakey. Jean is also survived by several nieces and nephews, cousins and dear friends too numerous to mention.

Jean was preceded in death by her sister Patricia Ann and her brother Ted A. Hakey.

Jean wanted to thank her doctor, Jeremy Kortmansky and nurses for the time they made possible for her, and her friend Helen Marek, who was always so kind about getting her to chemo.

Her family will receive relatives and friends on Sunday, May 20 2012 at 2 p.m. at the First Church of Christ, 511 Amity Road, Bethany. Burial will be at the convenience of the family.

In lieu of flowers donations may be given to: the First Church of Christ or Connecticut Hospice Branford.
