PALM COAST, Fla. — Mrs. Janet (Boyd) Dettmar, 86, of Palm Coast, Fla. ascended into heaven on Saturday, Sept 14, 2013, surrounded by her family.

Janet was born in Kilmarnock, Ayrshire, Scotland, July 16, 1927, daughter of the late William and Jean (McVie) Boyd and relocated to Naugatuck with her parents in 1929. She loved to sew, crotchet, cook and was an avid reader who could converse on many topics. Janet had a lovely voice and as a child, sang at Radio City Music Hall and on a weekly radio show. She was educated at Post College in Connecticut and Daytona State College in Florida. She was the secretary to Dr. Henry Merriman of Waterbury; the secretary to the principal at Western School in Naugatuck; the secretary to the president of Russell and Axon Consulting Engineers in Daytona Beach, Fla., and the registrar at the School of Creative Arts at Rollins College in Winter Park, Fla.

Janet’s most important work however, was being the mother of three children; a loving wife, sister and friend. She gave of herself unconditionally, her time willingly, and strove for honesty, hard work and loyalty. Our mom was our best friend, confidant, and rock. Her strength, wisdom and love sustained us throughout our lives.

Janet was predeceased by her husband of 50 years, Robert B. Dettmar; sister, Jean Membrino, Waterbury; her beloved Shih Tzu, Bijoux and by her sister, Marion Moruska, Naugatuck.

She leaves behind, two sons, David Klimasewski, (Barbara) of Ocala, Fla., and Raymond Klimasewski, Jr. of Palm Coast, Fla., and one daughter, Kimberly (Dettmar) Connolly, (Peter) of Palm Coast, Fla.; one sister, Catherine LaRosa of Wolcott; one brother, William Boyd, (Leslie) of Palm Coast, Fla.; two grandchildren, three great-grandchildren and many nieces and nephews.

Her funeral service will be held on Saturday, Oct. 26, 2013 at 10 a.m., at Zion Lutheran Church, 1555 Hamilton Ave., Waterbury, CT 06706. The Alderson Funeral Home of Naugatuck, 201 Meadow St., is in charge of arrangements.
