James J. Maguire

NAUGATUCK — Mr. James J. Maguire, 89, passed away peacefully, surrounded by his family, on Wednesday, Feb. 3, 2021, at his home. He was the loving husband of Antonette (Gugliotti) Maguire.

James was born on May 5, 1931, in New York City, N.Y., son of the late William and Nora (Dwyer) Maguire. He attended Sacred Heart High School in Waterbury. He was trained and worked as a sheet metal mechanic for many years, and as a VOTECH sheet metal instructor for more than 19 years, retiring from Wilcox Technical School.

He was a proud U.S. Navy veteran, having served during the Korean conflict, and was a longtime member of the American Legion Post 17. Jim volunteered his time with the Peter J. Foley Little League in Naugatuck, where he coached and served as director.

A car aficionado, Jim owned a 1930 Model A Ford. He enjoyed being a member of the Model A Ford Car Club and attending car shows.

Along with his wife, Toni, Jim traveled extensively and loved his winters in Florida. He was a fun loving jokester, an avid cribbage player, and a huge New York Yankees and UConn fan.

Above all, Jim was a loving husband, father and grandfather and cherished the time he spent with his family and many friends.

In addition to Toni, his beloved wife of 64 years, Jim is survived by his children, Elizabeth Straznitskas and her husband, David, Michael Maguire and his wife, Wendy, Sallie McMullen and her husband, Francis, and Jeffrey Maguire and his wife, Danielle; his grandchildren, Jaclyn Straznitskas, Andrew Straznitskas, Melissa Gibeault, Gregory Maguire, Timothy McMullen, Britteny Bruneau, Kevin McMullen, Tyler Maguire and Emma Maguire; and his great-grandchildren, Kaylee McMullen and Isabella Bruneau.

He also leaves his brother, William Maguire; and his sisters, Margaret Donnelly, Kathleen DeMatteo and Mary Finlay; as well as several generations of nieces and nephews.

Jim’s family would like to thank his longtime caregiver, Zeuse Andres, for his outstanding and compassionate care shown to Jim throughout the years.

All services are private and will be at the convenience of the family. Maiorano Funeral Home has been entrusted with all arrangements.
