NAUGATUCK — James A. Claffey, 54, of Harlow Court, died unexpectedly Thursday, April 12, 2012, at St. Mary’s Hospital in Waterbury. He was the husband of Joan (Harrison) Claffey.

Jim was born in Philadelphia, Pa., Nov. 20, 1957, son of Patricia (Parker) Claffey of Hickory, N.C., and the late James J. Claffey. He was raised in Swarthmore, Pa., served in the U.S. Navy, and had lived in Naugatuck for 23 years. He was an installation technician for AT&T and a member of the Naugatuck Elks Club. A devoted father, his favorite pastime was hanging out with his son, Josh. He also enjoyed computers and was a gifted carpenter and woodworker. During his life, Jim touched many people with his kind, caring and charitable nature; in death his generosity continued though organ donation.

Besides his wife and mother, Jim leaves his son, Joshua Claffey of Naugatuck; his sister, Lorie Claffey of Torrington; two brothers-in-law, Thomas Harrison and Keith Harrison and his wife, Pamela, all of Watertown; his sister-in-law, Judy Dayton and her husband, Richie, of Watertown; 13 nieces and nephews, Heidi (Zeiner) Bush and her husband Erik, Matthew Zeiner, Erik Zeiner, Bryan Zeiner, George Barnes Jr.and his wife Nancie, Rick Dayton Jr. and his wife Cyndi, Tom Harrison Jr. and his wife Sandie, Vicki Barnes, Wendy Gallagher and her husband Drew, Lisa McNulty and her husband Stephen, Holly Zamora and her husband David, Keith Harrison II, and Kevin Harrison; and several grandnieces and grandnephews.

In addition to his father, Jim was predeceased by his father- and mother-in-law, Robert and Dorothy (LeMay) Harrison, his sister-in-law, Susan Barnes, and, also, by his grandnephew Harrison Dayton.

Funeral services and burial are private and at the convenience of the family. There are no calling hours. Arrangements have been entrusted to Hickcox Funeral Home, 195 Main St., Watertown.
