NAUGATUCK — Irene Broderick, 89, widow of Michael J. Broderick Jr., passed away peacefully on July 23, 2021.
Irene was born on Jan. 12, 1932, in Naugatuck; the youngest of nine children of Michael and Helen (Jarema) Janus, and was a lifelong Naugatuck resident. Irene retired from Uniroyal Chemical, where she worked as a lab technician. She was a devoted mother, grandmother and great-grandmother. She will always be remembered as a fabulous baker and cook, as well as a very gifted seamstress.
Irene is survived by her son and daughter-in-law, Thomas and Theresa Broderick; her grandchildren, Danielle Joubert and her husband, Daniel, Kathryn Broderick, Andrea Fisher and her husband, Kyle, and Kyle Broderick; her great-granddaughter, Claire Joubert; and many nieces and nephews.
A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated Tuesday, July 27, at 11 a.m. at St. Francis of Assisi Church, 318 Church St., Naugatuck. Burial will follow at St. James Cemetery, Cross Street, Naugatuck. A calling hour will be held on Tuesday from 9:30 to 10:30 a.m. at the Buckmiller Thurston Mengacci Funeral Home, 82 Fairview Ave., Naugatuck.
