Henrietta (Skiba) Kamienski

NAUGATUCK — Mrs. Henrietta (Skiba) Kamienski, ‘Hank’, 81, of Longwood Drive, Naugatuck died on Tuesday, April 3, 2012 at Glendale Center after a courageous battle with Alzheimer’s and other complications. She was the wife of Edward Kamienski.

Henrietta was born in Derby on March 20, 1931, a daughter (one of 12 children) of the late Walter and Agnes (Soj) Skiba.

Henrietta worked as an assembler at Sikorsky Aircraft in Bridgeport and as a waitress at Howard Johnson’s Restaurant in Waterbury. She loved Polka dancing, singing, crocheting, doing word puzzles, and a Yankee fan. In her later years, she was a member of the “Happy Timers,” a choral group that performed along with her husband at convalescent homes, senior centers, etc. In her earlier years in Derby, she was a member of the “Polish Falcons” who enjoyed singing and dancing the “Krakowiak” and other Polish folklore in brightly colored costumes. She was a communicant of St. Vincent Ferrer Church in Naugatuck. Henrietta was well loved by family and friends who enjoyed her company. She will be dearly missed.

Besides her husband of 58 years, she leaves a son, Edward Julian Kamienski and wife Emelia Zartman of Anchorage, Alaska; a daughter, Wanda Agnes Niemi and her husband W. Brian Niemi and grandsons Jack and Colton Niemi of Greensboro, Vt.; a sister, Sandy Kuca of Florida; many nieces and nephews.

She was predeceased by three brothers, Joseph, Ted, and Frank Skiba, Jr.; seven sisters, Stella Pozucek, Gladys Niezielski, Genevieve Goulet, Irene Godzieba, Yonny Madura, Sharon Skiba, and Cecelia Jadach.

The family would like to thank the entire Glendale Center staff for the care and comfort given to Henrietta.

Her funeral will be held on Thursday, April 5 at 9:15 a.m. from the Naugatuck Valley Memorial/Fitzgerald Zembruski Funeral Home, 240 North Main St., Naugatuck to St. Vincent Ferrer Church, 1006 New Haven Road, Naugatuck for a mass of Christian burial at 10 a.m. Burial will follow in St. James Cemetery, Cross Street, Naugatuck. Calling hours will be held at the funeral home on Wednesday from 5 to 7 p.m. A memorial Mass will be celebrated at a later date.
