NAUGATUCK — Gregory Martin Murphy, 61, of Naugatuck, formerly of Seymour, entered into eternal rest on Sunday, June 3, 2012 at Paradigm Healthcare of Prospect.

He was born in Flushing, N.Y., on Oct. 9, 1950, the beloved son of Martin M. and Florence Krygier Murphy of Long Island, N.Y. Greg was a devout communicant and Eucharistic Minister of the Church of the Good Shepherd of Seymour. Greg was an active member of the Knights of Columbus, Aurora Council, No. 53 of Seymour. He was a past Grand Knight and currently a 4th degree member of the Council Honor Guard.

Greg was a graduate of Norwich University of Northfield, Vt., and was a recipient of a degree in business administration. He was formally employed as a manager for Woolworth Department Stores and A.C. Moore. Recently he was an insurance agent for the Knights of Columbus of New Haven. Greg was a swimming and golf coach for the Oxford Special Olympics. He was an avid golfer, reader, and New York Yankees and Giants fan.

He will be sadly missed by his family and many friends. His loving family in addition to his parents includes his beloved son, Kevin G. Murphy and his wife Katia Montresor of Hoboken, N.J.; and his caring daughter, Christine Murphy of Naugatuck; his devoted brother, Thomas Murphy and his wife Linda of Port Washington, N.Y.; and his loving sisters’ Kathleen Meehan and her husband Louis of Jackson Heights, N.Y., Ann Dranoff and her husband Robert of Sayville, N.Y., Janet Derrick and her husband Richard of Naperville, Ill., and Mary Ellen Gray and her husband Paul of Del., and three cherished grandchildren Emily, Colin, and Liam Sanderson and his former wife Patricia Thompson Murphy of Naugatuck; his aunt, Marion Krygier of Queens, N.Y., and several nieces and nephews.

A mass of Christian burial will be celebrated on Wednesday, June 6, 2012 at 10 a.m. (directly) at the Church of the Good Shepherd, 135 Mountain Road, Seymour. Interment will be private and at the convenience of the family. Friends and relatives may call on Tuesday from 4 to 8 p.m. at the Miller Ward Funeral Home, 260 Bank St. (Route 67) Seymour, opposite Klarides Village.
