NAUGATUCK — On Tuesday, Sept. 17, 2019, Gregory Alex Sholomicky, beloved husband and father of four, passed away at the age of 63 with his family by his side.
He was born Jan. 26, 1956 in Bridgeport to the late Alexander Sholomicky Jr. and Anastasia (Koliada) Sholomicky. Gregory graduated Andrew Warde High School in Fairfield in 1974 before joining the Navy. He served eight and a half years in the Navy Construction Battalion (Seabee) and retired from the Army National Guard. Gregory worked at the Hospital of Veterans Affairs in West Haven for the past 18.5 years. He and his wife of 39 years, Linda Sholomicky (Yedziniak), raised four daughters, Nicole, Amanda, Melissa and Kaylynn, and resided in Naugatuck for the past 34 years.
He was a handy man who loved the game of golf and a good cigar. He was an avid golfer who served as president of the West Haven VA Golf League for five years.
He is survived by his wife and just celebrated their 39th anniversary on Aug. 16, 2019, Linda (Yedziniak) Sholomicky; his four daughters, Nicole (Steven) Macharelli, Amanda (Gregory) Harris, Melissa Sholomicky and Kaylynn Sholomicky; his brother, Alexander Sholomicky III, and sister, Nadejda (Sholomicky) Fournier. In addition to his parents, he was predeceased by his sister, Daria; sister-in-law, Susan (Garafolo) Sholomicky, and brothers-in-law, Stephen Fournier and Daniel Levesque.
Calling hours for Gregory will be held 5 to 8 p.m. Tuesday, Sept. 24, 2019 at The Alderson-Ford Funeral Home of Naugatuck, 201 Meadow St, Naugatuck. A private graveside service with full military honors will be held at the State Veterans Cemetery, 317 Bow Lane, Middletown.
