Obituary: Gloria A. (Menotti) Cretella

NAUGATUCK — Gloria A. (Menotti) Cretella, passed away peacefully on Thursday, Nov. 15, 2012 at VITAS Innovative Care Unit at Saint Mary’s Hospital. She was the widow of Benedict A. Cretella.

Mrs. Cretella was born in Stamford on July 26, 1926, a daughter of the late Carlo and Marcelina Menotti. She was educated in Stamford and graduated from Stamford High School in 1945. She moved to Naugatuck in 1948, where she spent the rest of her life. She enjoyed spending time with her family and friends, making and telling her jokes to the young and old. She enjoyed reading and spending quality time with her grandson Kameron Guerrera, with whom she lived with.

She leaves her four daughters, Patricia Gugliotti and her husband Louis of Waterbury, Susan Poynton and her husband Michael of Highland Park, Ill., Carol Dwyer and her husband Howard of Naugatuck, and Dolores (Guerrera) Cretella of Naugatuck; 10 grandchildren, Carrie DiMicco and her husband James of Wolcott, Melissa Gugliotti of Waterbury, Jennifer Gugliotti of Prospect, David Gugliotti and his wife Crystal of Waterbury, Chantel Poynton and Jason Cunningham of Chicago, Ill., Michael Poynton III of Chicago, Ill., Nicole and Kelly Dwyer of Naugatuck, Kandice Guerrera of Winter Park, Fla., and Kameron Guererra of Naugatuck; three great-grandchildren Olivia Chanel Poynton and Caden Jason Poynton of Chicago, Ill. and Mason James DiMicco of Wolcott. She also leaves her god daughter Lois Cretella of Missouri, special niece Mary Cretella, her very dear friend Tracey Hart of Naugatuck, and several nieces and nephews.

She was predeceased by her brother, Anthony Menotti and her sister, Louis Uva.

A mass of Christian burial will be celebrated on Monday, Nov. 19, 2012 at 9 a.m. at St. Mary Church, 338 North Main St., Naugatuck. Friends are asked to meet at the church at
8:45 a.m. Burial will follow in St. James Cemetery, Cross Street, Naugatuck. There are no calling hours. The Naugatuck Valley Memorial/Fitzgerald Zembruski Funeral Home, 240 North Main St., Naugatuck has been entrusted with her arrangements.
