Obituary: Frank S. Sterniak

Obit-CandleENGLEWOOD, Fla. — Mr. Frank S. Sterniak, 91, of Englewood, Fla., formerly of Naugatuck, passed away in Englewood on Sunday, Jan. 20, 2013. He was the husband of Florence M. (Zmyewski) Sterniak.

Mr. Sterniak was born in Naugatuck, on Dec. 3, 1921, a son of the late Joseph and Mary Ann (Dutkowski) Sterniak. He was a longtime Naugatuck resident before moving to Florida over 20 years ago. He was a veteran of the Army Air Force serving during World War II. He retired from the Chemical Division of Uniroyal, Inc. where he was a lab technician for over 30 years. He was a member of the Elks and the American Legion.

Besides his wife of 66 years, he leaves his brother, Edmund Sterniak of Southington; two sisters, Ann Zerdyla and Hedwig Kalzaitis, both of Naugatuck; two sisters-in-law, Ann Adamski and Sophie Zmyewski, both of Naugatuck; several nieces, nephews, grandnieces and grandnephews.

He was predeceased by his daughter, Kathy Ann Sterniak.

A mass of Christian burial will be celebrated on Saturday, Feb. 2 at 9 a.m. at St. Hedwig Church, 32 Golden Hill St., Naugatuck. Friends are asked to meet directly at the church at 8:45 a.m. Burial with military honors will follow in St. James Cemetery, Cross Street, Naugatuck. There are no calling hours. Arrangements entrusted to the Naugatuck Valley Memorial/Fitzgerald Zembruski Funeral Home, 240 North Main St., Naugatuck.
