Florence (Jones) Francis

WATERTOWN — Mrs. Florence (Jones) Francis, 96, of 71 Hamilton Lane, Watertown died Friday, Sept. 9, at Waterbury Hospital surrounded by her loving family, after a short illness. She was the wife of the late Joseph Peter Francis of Southington.

Florence was born in Preston, England on Jan. 6, 1915, daughter of the late William Jones and Florence Batten Jones Rogers. She immigrated to Canada in 1920 and to Waterbury in 1922. Florence was devoted to her family and enjoyed traveling. She loved being surrounded by family and friends. Florence was a member of Mill Plain Union Church, Waterbury.

Florence leaves a son, Peter J. Francis and wife Debra Kelly Francis of Watertown; a daughter Joyce Francis Dillon Houser, widow of the late Frank M. Houser, of Atlanta, Ga.; stepdaughter Leatrice Francis Kanute, widow of the late Francis Kanute, Southington; stepson the late Joe Francis and wife Janet Francis, Murphey, North Carolina; six grandchildren, Jennifer Francis Finlay and husband Andrew Finlay, Naugatuck, Peter J. Francis, Jr., Waterbury, John (Robb) Dillon and wife Renee Dillon, Atlanta, Ga., Lisa M. Francis, Watertown, Michelle Francis Zelek and husband Shawn Zelek of Watertown and Laura Francois Houser of Nashville, Tenn.; and eight great-grandchildren, Andrew Finlay, Amanda Finlay and Adam Finlay all of Naugatuck, Adalena Francis, Waterbury, Justin Francis Kloski, Jack Zelek both of Watertown, Jackson Robin Dillon and John Ryan Dillon both of Atlanta, Ga.

She was preceded in death by her two brothers Arthur Jones and Harry Jones.

Visitation will be held on Monday, Sept. 12, 5 p.m. to 8 p.m. at the Hickcox Funeral Home, 195 Main St., Watertown. The funeral will be held Tuesday, Sept. 13, at 11 a.m. at the Mill Plain Union Church, 242 South Mayd Road, Waterbury.
